Here’s the list of the members. Kentucky AD is the SEC representative. But I think he must recuse himself when his conference is discussed.
College Football Playoff Selection Committee Prepares for 2022-23 Season - College Football Playoff

I think it’s pretty well a given that these will be the first five announced on this Tuesday night.
1. Georgia
2. Michigan
3. TCU
4. USC
5. OSU

The only real controversy is 6 vs 7. Which will be either 10-2 Tennessee or 10-2 Bama.
The best argument for us is the head to head win and the rout at LSU who beat Bama.

The best argument for them is that their two losses were so narrow and that Tennessee was blown out in both losses.
The additional argument against us is losing our starting QB to injury.

i think the only fair thing to do is to have each member tell the public how they voted and why.
However, I know there is no way that this will happen. The head of the committee will just say they think Bama is CURRENTLY the better team and that is more important than head to head.

Of course, none of it matters if USC beats Utah and TCU beats KState.
But both of those games will be quite interesting and it wouldn’t shock me if Utah and KState both win.

I agree your top 5 makes sense but some people are already trying to argue Bama should jump OSU for #5.

I think it’s ridiculous but yeah, some are taking that position.

We are ahead of Alabama by all of the committee's qualifiers. When circumstances at the margins indicate that teams are comparable, then the following criteria must be considered:
  • Championships won (not applicable)
  • Strength of schedule (Tennessee's is better)
  • Head‐to‐head competition (if it occurred) 52-49
  • Comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory) we smashed LSU, they lost

I doubt that anyone on CFP really wants to vote for Bama,

In the north, west, east....they are public enemy # 1.

Not really all that popular around here

Exactly! That’s why I want to hear their reasoning when they put Bama at 6 and Tennessee at 7.

Let's wait and see what happens tomorrow night. Coaches poll has always been a joke. AP poll only marginally better but both are meaningless. CFP is the only one that matters. That's their website and those qualifiers are crystal clear. I'm confident we'll be ahead of Alabama.

We will not go to the playoffs in any scenario. Full stop.
Why?
do you think that TCU stays in the top 4 if they lose to KState?
I admit that is a possibility since they would finish 12-1. But, they play in a weak conference.

Recusal is by school, not conference. As UK is nowhere on the CFP radar, Barnhart has a say in everything.

Thanks. I didn’t know that.
I wonder if Mitch would vote for Bama ahead of us since UK considers us their biggest rival.

They aren’t sending a team that gave up 63 points to an unranked team in November. It won’t happen. Whether we leapfrog Bama to go to the Sugar will be driven by a lot of other factors, but there is no scenario where we go to the CFP. None.

Just let me play this out.
it’s a bit of wishful orange colored glasses 🤓 but just let me state the Vols best case scenario.

this Tuesday, they come out with this ranking.
1. Georgia
2. Michigan
3. TCU
4. USC
5. OSU
6. Tennessee
7. Alabama

Georgia beats LSU
Michigan beats Purdue
TCU loses by more than 14 to KState
USC loses by more than 14 to Utah

Isnt it entirely POSSIBLE that Both OSU and Tennessee move up two spots to #3 and #4?

No way OSU should be#5.They got stomped in the second half, lost by 22 at home, had the 70 something SOS.Only game with a team that was breathing, and got drilled.
They have beaten two currently ranked teams. One in the top ten.

They would love for TCU to be out. It’s terrible for ratings for them to be in. If they lose by a point, they’re out. If USC loses, they’re out. If they let a two loss SEC team in over three different conference champions (ACC, Big 12, and PAC) they better have a sound story. UT collapsing to an unranked SC is not that. Losing our top player puts us further out. It’s a terrible quandary for the committee, but they’d take Alabama first. It’s a credible story. Their losses were by a few points. Sadly that’d trump head to head from October.

You left one off, the bottom bullet which is why I think we get hosed, Hendon getting hurt will diminish us in the eyes of the committee
2. PRINCIPLES
  • The committee will select the teams using a process that distinguishes among otherwise comparable teams by considering:
    • Conference championships won,
    • Strength of schedule,
    • Head‐to‐head competition,
    • Comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory), and,
    • Other relevant factors such as unavailability of key players and coaches that may have affected a team’s performance during the season or likely will affect its postseason performance.

Honestly: going to the playoff would be awesome, but I think we’d be dead men walking without Hooker—no matter who we played
I totally disagree. We got a month to prepare, having Milton at Quarterback also gives defensive coordinators problems because they don’t have a lot of recent film to really know what to expect of Milton or how our plan will evolve. Teams underestimating our offensive weapons and our offensive coaches ability to have a good game plan for Milton. GBO

The only real reason to watch this Tuesday is to see the 5-7 rankings.
it will be a combination of OSU, Bama, Vols.
Reece Davis, a Bama grad and the host of the rankings show, has already said that he gives head to head results a big weight and that means two teams with the same record should be first judged by that.
so, after he reveals them Tuesday night, and if Bama is 6 and Vols 7, I bet that Davis will call out the committee and say they were wrong (even though he’s a Bama grad, he’s not a Bootlicker of his alma mater like a David Pollack).
