Per CFN's Who's Hot Top 10:

7. Tennessee QB Tyler Bray
Okay, so his starting debut came against a very bad Memphis team. Still, this is the same true freshman who played well a week earlier in the loss to South Carolina. Looking every bit like the future under center in Knoxville, he strafed the Tigers for five touchdown passes and 325 yards on 19-of-33 passing.

:good!:

It's good to get some postive publicity for a change by National media.

Go Vols.

I realize who it was against and what not but he looked very good yesterday. With his supporting cast that he will have in the next couple of years, there is plenty of reasons to be excited about what the offense could look like. I will be more pumped if he does the same thing to Ole Miss next week.

Tyler Bray looked great against Memphis. Hope he keeps it up against the Black Bears this week.

I do think he has the potential to have a great future. I'm not sure I like the ridiculous amount of praise being heaped on him.

I don't understand why he is getting so much praise. Simms would have had the same stats or better. (sarcasm)

Serious question, not bashing.

I missed the first half (parents are visiting and my dad just doesn't move too fast anymore - couldn't get out of the restaurant), and I know it was big. BUT, what I saw in the 2nd half from Bray was wholly unimpressive - I don't recall any completions (I'm sure I'm forgetting 1 or 2), and I saw a lot of grossly overthrown or underthrown balls - like the one to Neal on the wheel route, or the one out of the back of the endzone to Hunter. Someone posted here or on GVX that 3 of the TDs would have been picks against a good secondary. So was he really that awesome or did we just have some good luck against a horrible team?

I'm not being negative - would be thrilled to see Bray or Simms play lights out. I'm just concerned there's maybe a little over-euphorianism (yes, that's a word, at least for this post).

I don't think Simms would have looked as good. I say he would have thrown at maybe 2 interceptions and sacked 3 or 4 times at least.

He had some throws that probably wouldn't have flown with a better secondary but he also had some immaculate throws. Either way he got the job done. He is obviously the better choice than Simms right now but I wouldn't crown him a future all-american or anything until he plays some better competition.

At least we have something to be excited about now. I just hpe he can have half that kind of game against Ole Piss. We might actually win our first SEC game.

Bray will be great...............that is why he needs live game speed reps this season....his upside uber-far out weighs his down sides.

Watching replay...can't concentrate on game because Mike leach took 12 xannax before the game.. He is a great commentator. He just said "um" and "the uh the uh thing" like 12 times in one sentence and then just gave up. He is my new fave behind Corso. On the game we look great can't wait till Ole Miss game! GBO

He was getting hit on the wheel route to Neal.

He made some risky throws that probably would have been broken up by a good secondary. However, what team left on the schedule has a good secondary? None.

Bray's got all the physical tools to be a great one here.

You don't throw for over 300 yards and 5 tds in the first half by being "lucky." There's some skill involved too.

Not sure what they were watching. No doubt a decent secondary wouldn't have had as many guys running free, but it's not like Bray was throwing up a bunch of jump balls and getting lucky. He was doing a good job of moving around in the pocket and then hitting open receivers.

Maybe some offensive linemen will read this and want to block for the next great Tennessee quarterback.... Especially ones from Tennessee...

I agree. He slid around and bought time then delivered strikes again and again and again.

And to be honest, I'll take Tennessee's chances on jump balls to Justin Hunter

Not a bad last option. When he and Rodgers find the "go get it" when its in the air (J.Jones/A, Green like) It will be a weapon to pitch it up and watch.

Hunter made a "go get it catch" right before half was just a foot out of the end zone. He has skills to be a great one.:good!::clapping:

well then you missed the 5td's he threw and the 300 plus yards. of course there will be a let down after that. That's a whole game piled into one half.

Long balls were a bit late and underthrown. But he is the real deal and what u saw is totally coachable. Arm strength and pocket presence is rediculous for a true Fr that came to TN. I am soooo tired of not having a QB. Now we have one and receivers to go with it. Who remembers Marino, Duper, and Clayton??? You will soon know my friends !!! GBO !
