CDD On Poole

I think Poole is an excellent young man and that he is a max effort guy. I do not believe he has the ability that you need at RB to win in the SEC. I think he is a class act all the way, but we need an upgrade in that department. I am also not sold on Lane as the answer. I do believe that Lane can be the man, but he needs to get much, much stronger. I dearly wish that we could land a guy such as a Dyer, Crowell, or Lattimore.

I believe Lane can be as good as Dyer. Crowell hasn't proven anything quite yet. So he got 118 yds last week. Big whoop. He is about the only option they have. Lattimore, now he's a different story. He is a beast and backs like that don't come around very often. Lane is extremely talented and he will be very good. Little early to say you aren't sold on him. He simply hasn't had enough carries yet.

saying a player is better than a UT player has nothing to do with hate. Not every player that suits up for UT is the best in the country at his position

who cares? and how can you even say he's better? and to me, they may not be, but i'll root for them before i do anyone else. and on top of that, i'm not gonna sit around and wish this and that when those same guys you guys are wishing for didn't wanna play for UT. it's pointless!

WOW! The nerve of some of you! Other backs over Poole who gives us his all EVERYTIME HE PUTS ON A UNIFORM. Please! Poole- love him! Why? Because he's all VOL. Lattimore had his chance to come to UT, SAW Poole, went to USCjr. Same with Dyer. If you guys like them so much and hate Poole so much, please, by all means BECOME SOUTH CAROLINA AND AUBURN fans! i like the next love recruits who list UT as a possible destination, but once they choose another school all love is lost. i love those who choose to attend, represent, and play their hearts out for The Univesity of TENNESSEE! there is no other way to explain it!

True fan right here, folks.

I agree with what CDD says here. Both of our games I have complained about how Poole stops at the line of scrimmage and shuffles his feet. He got better in the second half against the Bearcats. Lane puts his shoulders down and powers through for the extra yardage. When Poole learns to do the same he will be a better back.

So let me get this straight...

You agree that Lattimore is an Elite back and better than Poole but he wouldn't do a better job running behind our line?

I'm confused.

No I'm not saying he's better... I'm saying that if you think he's so ELITE.. Do you think he would be better than Poole Behind our Line?? I don't.. I think it all starts up front... If he gets room.. Poole will go off.. just as any top SEC back would.. Backs are a dime a dozen.. The real key to an ELITE RB is the O-line.. I'm sure if we had a Chad Clifton for Poole to run behind he would look ELITE too..

Chris Johnson, Earl Campbell, and Barry Sanders disagree.

Tauren Poole = VOL. Therefore he's the one I want.(no homo)

Richardson, latimore, dyer, ect = enemy. When I see them I start thinking of road runner and coyete with cliffs, big rocks, and anvils. Smash em.

The boldened part is utterly nonsensical. Barry Sanders behind a great line or a lousy line is still Barry Sanders. His production would increase behind the former.

The underlined part is merely saying a better line helps whatever talents the RB have. That's a worthwhile observation.

Once again, this is a situation I will trust our coaches opinions on the matter a long time before anyone on here...

The kid gave us 6 100yd games and a 1000yd season behind freshman that couldn't open a whole in the line for anything... this obviously does not happen very often or it wouldn't have set or tied a record(forgot which one).

Think what you want... it is not going to change the fact that poole is a very good back who gets good production...

Until Lane gets 15+ touches in a game, noone will know just how good he is. Vol fans are gonna be very happy the kid is a vol.
Pay close attention to Maggitt during the game sat. hes gonna be responsible for keeping those speedy backs off the edge, should be fun to watch.

I watched the Cincy game again last night and there are at least 4-5 times where Poole makes the wrong cut and is stuffed for 0-1 yds. I know I already had this conversation with somebody, but he had success when he would cut back or take it to the outside.

I think this is going to be important for this week with an aggressive FLA defensive line. If they are too aggressive, that cut back should be there all day long. I don't think bouncing it outside is going to work. They have a lot of speed and can play sideline to sideline.

Just call it the way it is. Do I like Dyer or Lattimore more than I like Poole. No. Do I support Dyer or Lattimore? Hell no. They are better backs than Poole. It is just the truth, not dissing Poole. Just the way it is. Poole is all vol but that does not mean that there are not other options out there would be more productive.

And to clarify I think that if you were to put Lattimore into our offense he would hit 1400+ yards this season. The difference between Poole and Lattimore is what happens when they hit the second wave of defenders. Put it this way.. you do not hear Spurrier's wife calling Lattimore out.

IMO, Poole has too much muscle mass... if you look at his tapes coming out if high
school, he was a more shifty and quick
runner that could find the holes and make his cuts... now he just seems a straight ahead powerback which isn't really his thing... maybe I'm wrong but I think if he lost about 10 to 20 lbs he would showcase his talent more.

GBO!

Pool is very important to our style offense. He can pass-block better than any RB we have. We are a pass 1st football team! Get use to it! And the guys got a great pair of hands.

I almost spit out my coffee. That is absurd. Lattimore is elite. Poole is solid. Elite trumps solid.

Tried to resist but can't help but providing some info to ponder here. Lattimore ran behind a more experienced OL last year in an offense that had a credible passing threat all year. He avg'd fewer ypc. He had 4 100 yd games with none coming against a top 25 opponent. In fact, he avg'd under 4 ypc vs top 25 teams.

He was a Fr. He is a better talent than Poole. He does some really special things with the football... but Poole was more effective behind a weaker OL last fall.

No offense to Rex at all, but this thread sucks, bro. Poole is the man. That's it. He's an outstanding back. He's getting the job done while our o-line is still figuring things out. We're good at RB.

Proved my point right there.

As an inexperienced freshman running back coming into the meat grinder that is the SEC he put up almost more than 200 more yards rushing and 7 more touchdowns than Poole. He scored 19 TD's as a freshman and racked up 1200 yards in comparison Poole put up 86 yards and no scores as a freshman. Because freshman are not suppose to put up those kind of numbers. Lattimore is the exception. And just because he put up 3/10ths more of a yard per carry than Lattimore (on fewer carries and with years of experience) does not mean he is more effective than Lattimore, even with a more seasoned offensive line.

I love Poole's mindset and the fact that is all Vol but c'mon Lattimore he is not. Y'all can say what you want about me i.e negavol or whatever but it is the truth. Lattimore is elite and will be a 1st rounder.

Just what we needed, another thread depicting Poole as some third rate RB. Some of you have a serious mental deficiency, kid goes out behind less than stellar talent last year and averages over 5 yards a carry.

Not every RB can be a Marcus Lattimore/Trent Richardson, we can win in the SEC with Poole at RB, tune in this Saturday for proof.
