Assistant head coach Charlie Baggett, who tutors Tennessee's wide receivers, brings more experience in football meeting rooms --- more than three decades' worth --- than any other member of the Vols' coaching staff. He sees in Dooley characteristics that Baggett believes bode well for major success.

"Oh, I tell you what, I don't think I've worked for a guy that is as flexible and understanding and thorough at the same time as Derek is," said Baggett, whose resume includes work with five NFL teams. "It's just a pleasure to work here and be in this environment because I've been in a lot of different situations and worked for a lot of different coaches. I think Derek has the right mix. We do have an open line of communication. You can say anything you want to say in that (coaches' meeting) room up there. Sometimes he'll agree and sometimes he'll disagree.

"I think to be a good head coach, you've got to have that line where you understand you'll never cross. You've got always have that threat there that if you don't do your job, or you don't do the right things, you could get fired."

good to know that dooley has a good head on his shoulders, but that shouldn't be any big shocker to us. GO VOLS!

It seems to me that we have a great group of coaches that seem to like and respect each other. The players seem to be buying in as well.

UT may not have the horses to compete at the highest level this year but I do think we'll field a team that plays to the best of its ability, which is all we can ask for.

This speaks volumes...the integrity factor helps too.

I like Dooley and Baggett. I also think we will be successful with this staff but this is glorified fluff.

Sounds like Baggett is doing a little AK-ing!

Probably wise. I think the success of the 2011 season hinges on what Baggett can do with the receivers this off-season. He's got a lot of pressure, and a lot of guys who have to step-up and perform with some big shoes to fill.

I heard early on that DD was a micromanager of the highest order. Haven't checked back to see if that relaxed but it reads here like maybe it has.

Another good quote.

"I think the biggest point is, how are we going to improve if we don't constantly be self-critical? If we don't constantly analyze what we just did and discuss how we could do it better," said Dooley . . . "And I think that's what happens. You know, a program that's going well, if they think what they're doing is going to keep them at the top for the next 10 years, they're fooling themselves."

"Every year dynamics change in business, and it's no different than any other company. Every year, the competitive market changes. Technology changes. Ideas change. And if you're not constantly talking about how do we stay ahead of the game, then you're going to fall behind."

If actually true and not just coachspeak, then IMO it bodes well for Tennessee. If good coaches want to work for your head coach, then it will start to get around, and we won't have a hard time attracting talented assistants. You will always lose assistant coaches, especially good ones, because other people want them and you can't really stand in the way of a promotion, but at least we won't be starting over every year because they don't like the environment or their boss.

This is what we need. Definitely. I am very happy with Coach Dooley. Wins will come. I just keep reminding myself that we were just a few seconds away from being 8-5 last year when we were definitely down. I see good things for this year.

Not a micromanager, but wanted to always know what was going on with every aspect of the program. There's a difference.

Do you work inside the program? Not questioning just wondering? I have only heard one direct assessment of DD's management so any additional ones are good.

Micromanager to the highest level, keep those pages perfectly straight in the notebooks.

Yet puts 13 men on the field.
