When LSU went after Jimbo Fisher, one of the few active coaches with a national championship win, he told them he would go there for 6 million a year for 10 years guaranteed. LSU smartly turned that down because being on the hook for $60,000,000 is insane. Chip Kelly will request something similar. 5 million for 5 years at least. The University would be on the hook for paying the rest of Butch's buyout plus Kelly's new contract. Then what if the unthinkable happens and the "can't miss" hire turns into Rich Rod at Michigan or Charlie Strong at Texas or any of the other "can't misses" that busted?

Agree look before you take the leap.

No AD. Who is firing Jones? Who is signing off on Kelly for 60 mill ?

"1. Tennessee: Listen, Butch Jones has done a magnificent job of leading Tennessee to multiple life championships, but at some point, you have to wonder if Tennessee will become more interested in division, conference, and possibly even national titles."

Can't say I'd be opposed to seeing Kelly's offense at UT after what we've had to suffer through lately. Ain't no Kelly offense going to lose to Vandy or SC and especially not to both. I like Butch, but I'd have to vote for Kelly. Long-suffering Vol fans deserve this sort of upgrade.

I don't get this. Our Offense scores more points and had more touchdowns in the HISTORY...of Tennessee football. We prepare to play Nebraska in the bowl game, and all you hear is about the injuries they've had and blah blah. Even heard excuses for other teams IN OUR DIVISION after wins. How many Starters were missing in defense most of the year? Captains...leaders of our defense. I'm sick of this being overlooked and trivialized. And by our own fans no less!!! I tell you right now...we stay healthy all year, we aren't in Atlanta. I think Hurd disrupted the team chemistry as well. The hell with Chip Kelly. Let's rally around our guys and get it done.

Friday Five: Which college football job Chip Kelly should take right now - CBSSports.com

Looks like they think Tennessee is the place he should go. Obviously we don't have an opening but thought it was interesting

We can't even hire a AD. Why can't the people in charge have enough brains and go south and hire Dave Blackburn. What are you waiting for. Our luck some other big time college will hire him and we settle for some left over. Just look at Bama Dave Hart. All he did was mess up the Lady Vols logo. I mean all women sports at UT has always been Lady Vols.

But won't his standoffishness deter recruits. If he don't wanna interact with them won't that be a sign he don't care if they come or go. You see all the time where recruits talk about their relationship with their recruiter. Some decommit cause that coach left. I just don't understand it all :ermm:

He might not enjoy recruiting but he's not going to completely neglect it. Plus his success in the college game will sell itself. It also doesn't hurt having NFL experience to sell recruits

Admittedly I don't know much about the man but pretty sure he got fired by the nfl team. Recruiting is such a big thing in this day and age I just don't see him being a plus for UT. I also seen somewhere that he wants back in the nfl. Don't wanna risk his coming and running. Been there done that already-- lame kitten!!

Chip is hands down a better coach than BJ. If you can upgrade, you do it*.

*Not that UT would

Would he bring NIKE with him. has he won anywhere without NIKE...... recruits love NIKE $$$$..... not sure that would fly in SEC...if not named BAMA:lolabove:

Another SEC school fired their coach one year removed from a 10 win season, brought in an ex NFL coach, and made his annual salary double that of the highest paid college coach at the time.

How has that worked out?

I'm not for nor against this but would bring irony. Butch follows Brian Kelly to Central Michigan then Cincinnati. Jones comes to Tennessee breaking the cycle then gets replaced by a Kelly albeit Chip.

60 million for Kelly, I'm anxious to see where you got that number? His buyout from San Francisco alone would make him a relatively cheap hire for the first few years.

And for the record I'm not saying hes coming here or that UT is even remotely interested.

60 million is the number that Jimbo Fisher gave LSU, which they turned down. It provides a glimpse of what top coaches expect in the SEC. We can also look at Tom Herman, a good resume but no where close to Chip Kelly's, TX just signed him to a guaranteed 25 million. Chip Kelly will get somewhere between that and my guess is aTm or UCLA will pay it this year or next.

I don't guess it's unheard of for (Fired) NFL head coaches to take NCAA OC jobs. Didn't Kiffin get fired from the Raiders & go straight to being the OC at USC? I still don't see Chip Kelly accepting an OC job at UT, though. He'll only come if the HC job is offered, in my opinion.

He went from being fired at Oakland to Head Coach here

Haven't we learned that if we're going to hire someone outside the program that it'll be a Sun Belt, WAC, MAC conference guy! They have to fit in with Butch's program so he thinks hiring guys from there can do it 🤔

I'm sorry, but I disagree. Well, I agree with Kelly being on our Sidelines, but only as OC, not HC. To me, CBJ just seems like a Tennessee boy (With an accent) at heart. The passion he exudes & the emotion he shows After big Victories, wins me over! Now if we go .500 next year, the Good Ol' Boy's gotta go. We had 260 pound defensive tackles playing a quarter of the season, so I have given CBJ a pass on our successful 9-4 season. It really doesn't matter, we'll know all we need to know by the end of next season.

Kelly would laugh at Butch if he offered him the OC job. The next school he lands at will be a playoff contender the next 10 years

Kelly had a Heisman winning QB his last year at Oregon and then didn't even have control of player Personnel until his final year at Philadelphia in which he got fired and then one year at San Francisco and gets fired! NFL defensive coordinators found a way to stop his offense and he fell flat on his face! I'm not so sure I would hold Chip Kelly in as high regards as you. Don't get me wrong, he's a good coach. But great? I don't think so!!! The next school he lands at will be a playoff Contender for the next 10 years?!? You're putting Kelly on Saban's level and they aren't even in the same league!

He played in the National title game with his 3rd string QB and almost beat Cam Newton. He's 46-7 in the FBS and has been to 4 BCS bowls. His NFL record is completely irrelevant
