CBS "Dead Coach Walking at UT"

Yep, it's true. Unfortunately it's what Tennessee has done for a while. Give ridiculous amounts of money to coaches who aren't worth minimum wage on game day.

Hamilton and Hart and BOT.

Have Currie now, but same old BOT. It's a shame UT can't do better.

How about some common sense? Instead of $9 million to leave because you suck, how about a bonus of $9 million to bring home a national championship? If the coach makes more to fail than succeed, where's the incentive? Pay me Butchs salary and you can criticize the hell out of me while I smile all the way to the bank!

Where do I sign up for this lucrative offer?

Time to go all in on Chip Kelly...every recruit and commit we have knows his style of play. The offensive recruits know they will put up video game numbers...and they fit his system already along with our roster now. Plus he can make Garauntano his Dennis Dixon (PAC10 Off. Player of the Year), Jeremiah Masoli, Darren Thomas, and future Heisman winner now Titans QB Marcus Mariota...Garauntano is a prototype like all of them. Let's not forget RB's LaMichael James and Kenjon Barner gashed teams in his spread system. Kelly, Chandler, Fils-Aime should be licking their chops the way those RBs put up insane numbers.

Tennessee is the perfect fit for Chip Kelly to walk into and be successful...and if he could pull Mark Helfrich here for OC...then find a solid DC.....with SEC caliber athletes not the roster of 3 stars with a few 4 stars like he had at Oregon we will be dangerous and feared not considered an automatic "W" on teams schedules as we look now....Currie and the Power Boosters need to make this happen.
It could work, couldn't be as bad as the #$%^ we are running now on offense.

Listening to Doug Matthews. He seems to think Butch can still turn it around if he decides to play the best players instead of whatever he is doing now.

Sure, I'd like to believe this, but for a coach in the SEC for five years, shouldn't he already be doing this?!

If he hasn't figured this out already he not going to do it now.

$17 million is a fraction of where we need to be to start talking about canning coaches. Think more like $100 million.

If you want to have a new coach now, think less about Chip Kelly and more about who would take a $1 million salary with the knowledge that he needs an SEC title in 3 years.

Please...don't be giving the "needs an SEC title in 3 years" crap. You know that is absolutely wrong.

Dooley was here 3 years--he was not canned because he did not get us to an SEC Title...he got his butt kicked by Vandy.

And how about Butch...this is his 5th year...we did not fire him 2 years ago when we didn't win the SEC. We were patient and knew he needed more time. The heat started last year (year 4) when he had all the cards lined up, got administration to spend $1M for a defensive coordinator, and the expectation was to win the EAST, not the SEC, just the EAST, and he couldn't do that...but we still brought him back for year 5....and now, well, the BS play calling vs. UF, the ineptitude vs. UMASS,and the embarrassment vs. UGA has him where he is....

Please do not throw out false crap like winning the SEC in 3 years or you are a failure. Our past does not support that...

You can't regress and loose to your main 3 rivals.
Done lost to 2 rivals and the next may be the worst ass kicking in years.
Year 5 should be reloading not regressing.

with the buyout, a new coach salary, new assistants, things will get real pricy........but most of this money will be spread out over several years.

If someone like Chip came in and took Tennessee to the 90's level the money would be a wash or prob even a plus.

WYF are you even talking about? So you think Currie should look for a coach that would accept a 1 million a year salary? So you want Currie to go to an FCS school and select from the bottom of that conference? Are you freaking high?

Trust me, money is no issue at this point.

It will cost close to $25 million to buy out Butch & staff, then pay the buyout of a big name coach and his new staff.

Changing a coach is a business decision. Butch has become bad for business.

Tennessee is going to start losing money here soon.

Eventually, $7-$9 million will be a bargain to cut loose dead weight. You could lose that in ticket sales and t-shirts pretty quickly.

Dont buy into that " fake news" . Butch thinks that he is above scrutiny = he gets that 4.5 mil for showing up and spouting corny slogans and telling us what a good job he is doing. Sort of a Coach version of Trump. Butch has a good heart, but he is not cut out for the big league pressures of the SEC. If he was in the west, he would be close to winless after 4 years. If we were gonna go somewhere with him- we would be there now.

Are you talking one or the other??

You're right on the incentive standpoint, but from a coach's standpoint, which odds are greater?

- Winning a national championship
- Getting fired

10 to 1 on the latter compared to the former... that's why any decent coach would never sign the contract you propose.

First of all, you mention C.F.A., chandler and Kelly... Well, John Kelly is having such a good year that he will declare for NFL this off season.

Also by you mentioning Helfrich coming, you sound like Tiffin bringing his father to run the defense and Oregon coming to run the defensive line......

It makes too much sense to do something so smart like this it seems. Reading takes from LWS and JAV is depressing because they're confident we won't entertain hiring Kelly. Will be sickening to watch us hire a Norvell or Brohm type coach while Kelly goes somewhere else and kills it.

Helfrich isn't working anywhere right now and Orgeron is a good DL coach and Monte a NFL hof type coach. Big time hires just like Helfrich would be here
