CBS "Chaos finds Butch Jones again"

Wow.. this guy is oblivious.

1. Butch Jones calls 3 pass plays on the 1 yard line. The first pass is almost an interception and Butch decides do do it again which leads to an interception.

2. With 1 minute left in the game we are already in the redzone and just need a touchdown to win. We throw the ball and stop the clock 3 times! Florida only had 2 timeouts. We had the chance milk the clock and kick the field goal if we couldn't get in the end zones.

3. 9 seconds left and an obvious passing situation. Butch puts 2 people back and no one is there to cover the receivers.

4. At the end of the game Butch says hindsight is 20/20 which pissed me off even more. I was screaming during the game to QB sneak on the 1 yard line. Wth is wrong with this man?

Spot on, except it was one pass at the one-yard line, followed by three more passes from the six after a false start penalty. Still stupid play calling.

I agree 100% with everything else in your post. When I saw the formation in #3 before the snap, I thought "uh-oh I hope this doesn't bite us."

IMO, one of Butch's greatest deficiencies is that he was never a coordinator anywhere. He went straight from position coach to head coach. This meant that he never had to get deep in the x's and o's, adjust schemes before or during games based on the opponent, adjust play calls because of the clock, etc.

As a result, I don't think he has the deepest football knowledge, and I think it really hurts him in two ways; (1) game management; and (2) lack of respect from his assistants and possibly the players. I bet there is a lot of eye rolling by his staff.

I think the biggest thing wrong with our defense is the fact that shoop couldn't bring in his guys. What successful coordinator go to a program and isn't aloud to bring in his own guys? Our defense was an issue before shoop got here. So you bring him in and he just coordinates the garbage that was already here. I think shoop is a good coach, he will just be a scapegoat to butchs micro management and short lease to trust nobody but himself, and his self sucks at it

:rock:How did CBJ blow the game when the QB throws 3 interceptions, throws either behind or over his receivers at least 3 times, holds the ball too long and gets sacked more than once or gets a 15 yard penalty for flaunting or has 5 consecutive penalties when at the Florida 2-yard line. Somewhere on this site a fan has posted a picture of a UT player being held by his jersey keeping him for getting to the Florida QB on the last play of the game. There was poor officiating in several instances like when a UT lineman was literally tackled in front of an official in the Florida backfield...no penalty either. A defensive back capped it off by letting the Florida receiver get behind on the last play. This UT team has plenty of talent with plenty of freshmen too.

Pass plays from 1st and goal from the 6in line and 6 yard line. The best player on your team is a running back......thats how.

Yep, even the radio announcers were screaming it. Its obvious to everyone except CBJ. Nice to see a few more joining what several of us already knew. This game was only more confirmation for myself.

When your QB does that you pull him. Thats just one example of how he blew it.

That was a tough way to lose. I'm not giving up hope. Yes there were miscues we can point to on the field and bad coaching decisions, but heck, the East is wide open. Florida is gonna lose a few games. If the staff adjusts, which I'm confident they will, and handle business in conference, we'll be fine. The sky ain't falling yet.

What makes you confident this staff will adjust? This staff just had a major over haul, no real change. We are now on our 3rd OC, and this offense looks no different. It's like we didn't change. Lastly, when was the last time Tennessee has handled business in the conference? After beating UF and UGA last year, we couldn't handle business against Vandy or USC.

I like to believe that everyone is capable of change and self improvement. That's the recovering alcoholic in me.
And Butch getting better is our best hope for short term success.
I won't say he's not capable of becoming a championship coach but his repeated mistakes make it seem less likely all the time

I'm not giving up either. Unfortunately, about 90% of VN has.

I don't know about 90%, but I do think we are seeing a percentage of our population manifest a form of mental illness. They think and believe and say anything bad, even when they are obviously not accurate. Criticism is one thing, but this appears to be mass hysteria of the mentally infirm.

It's year 5. The coach on our sideline has recruited every player on the roster. The coach on our sideline has hired every assistant on his staff.

The excuses are over. It's his roster, his team, his system.

Stop placing the blame on the players that were recruited by Lyle "butch" Jones and coached by him and his staff.

These excuses and mistakes have been made for the past 4+ years, different players same results. At some point the head coach has to be the person held responsible.

Willingness is the key😉
Let's not waist too much time on someone who cannot or will not grasp this simple message.

Butch has steadfastly shown stubbornness.

I think that last 1st and goal we had to win with a TD at the end of the 4th qt was just Butch's ego trying to redeem and make himself look good.

Damn our administration. At the end of 2018, 5-9 heartbrakes, and a billion memes later..., Butch is outta here.

So, when has this staff shown any evidence of this to make you confident?

Kudos for making a change in your life. My assumption is that you realized YOU had a problem and it required you to make changes.
At this point, I don't believe CBJ accepts HE has a problem. He gives the impression that everything around him is why he hasn't the success he feels he should.

I think this sums up a good chunk of Butch's issues. I really believe he thinks his system doesn't work because of everyone around him, his players, execution, fans, etc., etc. It couldn't be him or his system.

CBS loves Butch. He has to be great for ratings with his cardiac coaching.

IMO he has the dangerous combination of stupid, stubborn, and ego.

People so afflicted are very, very unlikely to change in a meaningful way.

This... They don't care about what the fans want. I think Butch needs to go. I don't believe this weekend is the time to do it. It doesn't matter though. Bottom line, if the admin doesn't commit to fielding a championship level program, then you might as well keep Butch.

I don't understand why this isn't obviously clear to everybody.

From Kiffin to Dooley to Jones. This is a problem with the administration. They couldn't care any less what the fans want. As long as butts are in seats they are happy.

This really shows how ignorant they are. Bama pays coaches salaries in a couple of home games...then all the revenue that comes in is icing. Merchandise sales from fans and bandwagon fans, positive media and pub, the "look of success". Success is profitable! Wish we had sound leadership at these levels.

You haven't been paying attention to our university.
If Dooley doesn't have the Kentucky fiasco he's the coach for a couple more years and how long did it take to fire him after Kentucky?
If Butch Jones makes a bowl game he's not getting fired.

Again.....this is not what we the fans want....it's what our university does

From what I have seen this year we will not make a bowl game.

I'd bet he does.
He's recruited enough talent to cover stupidly up to 6 wins. I still think he can get 8.
Reality is -name your favorite coach- could finish with 1 loss with this group of kids

Who calls the plays? Who is responsible for getting the best players on the field? Who is responsible for making sure the time management is executed properly?
If all this stuff is taken care of, the 3 pics dont matter.
