This is my first thread, so forgive me if this has already been asked. Does anyone know if a coach has ever beaten Steve Spurrier in the first two games he coached against the HBC since he came to Florida in 1990?

Bobby Bowden and Les Miles?

Had some time so I looked this up. The only one I have found is Les Miles.

Just did the same and came to the same result. LSU's 2007 and 2008 teams with Miles as HC did the trick. Bowden won his first matchup in 1990, but lost the next one in 1991. Bowden finished up 9-5-1 against the HBC. I think The Mad Hatter has just faced Spurrier twice, winning them both.

I was guessing but I think the Mad Hatter is 3-0 against the HBC.

I think you are right, now that you mention it. I think the Tigers may have beaten USCe in Death Valley either last season or 2012.

Still, Butch appears to be in a pretty exclusive club.

Oh good lord! We beat sc twice. And it took miraculous comebacks both times. I'm excited about Butch but he ain't in elite company at this point. He has a losing record here

While I agree that it may be being blown up a bit, last year they were ranked and won 11 games if my memory is correct. We ruined their east title hopes.

Whether VN likes Spurrier or not, he has been a legend in the SEC as both a player and a coach. I simply wondered who had started head-to-head battles against the HBC with two straight wins.

Well that whole "credibility" hasn't worked itself out yet has it.

You could do him a favor and wipe out this flub...he would return the favor by not "attacking you with facts". :w00t:

He may be a good FB coach, but he seems to be lacking in the man, good sport & character catagories as he displayed, once again, in his post-Tennessee press conference

That has a lot to do with why I started the thread. Spurrier has never accepted defeat very well, especially at the hands of the Vols. Since he is a coach that the SEC and other conferences have tried to beat over the years with limited success, I just wanted to see how many coaches were able to start out as well as CBJ has.
