Why is it that any criticism leveled against CBJ and this staff, is immediately "whining" or "jumping ship"? We are not Florida with a second year HC, with a barel serviceable QB and OL. Posters on SwampGas are deluding themselves given their situation. We are a team returning 17 starters, in the 4th year under CBJ, ranked 9th in the country, and we came out and played like an unprepared high school team.
I'm sorry, but I have higher expectations for the staff at this point. Tennessee has been mediocre for way to long to just accept the performance we saw on Thursday. It is flat out unacceptable with the talent and experience that we have on this team.
I accept the performance because we WON. Some of the stuff on here, they are valid criticisms - but my problem is the people who continually imply or say outright, that we have a bad coaching staff. Many of those fall into a category that simply do not like spread option offenses, which is fine, but they translate that into "Botch is stupid! Fire him!" They basically wait with bated breath for any and every reason to hurl criticism at the coaches AND players.
It is tiresome and it makes this board unreadable. Not to mention, it makes many of you look like obsessive, fixated lunatics.
We played one game, played badly, and won.
Fix the mistakes and move on.
This complete meltdown BS is beyond old. It makes me wonder how long many of you have followed Vol football. I'm 34, but I am old enough to remember some great UT teams that, at times, looked EXACTLY like the team that showed up Thursday night.
But the lunatic, egomaniacs here are in a perpetual state of trying to prove that they are "right," at the expense of their team and fellow fans.
That goes both ways - folks who think we should roll over everyone we play are just as stupid, although more tolerable, than the ones who claim we'll be "lucky to win 6 games with these players and coaches."
The truth is, we still don't know a lot about team 120. What we do know, is that they are a scrappy bunch that does not give up. Some of our best teams of the past, given the sitiation, would not have been able to gut out that win.
This is a close knit unit. It's not a bunch of guys running around not on the same page with dreams of the NFL being their only motivating factor. These guys care about each other. And that's more than many of the UT teams of the last decade and even beyond could say.
It's too early to pass judgment, like so many seem determined to do.
