CBJ: "King of Bad Decisions"

Where were all these negative posters when we were on a win streak and took NW to the woodshed?

Mabye many are negative when things are negative and positive when things are positive. It's called living in reality.

It was good to see us beat teams we should beat. But we do lose too many close games against good teams and often based on being out coached.

If people are negative even when we're winning then they are truly negavols.

Good post :good!:

well, he gave us our best season since 2007 last year and has gotten ut back in the top 10 - at least as far as perception is concerned.

More than the last two coaches ever did.

You would think after so much turmoil, vol fans would be a tiny bit appreciative of how far we have come.

But no, they whine and cry after a win.

Florida looked like hot garbage, now go check out their fan boards. They aren't melting down. They're talking about how stupid we are acting.

Some of you are just mentally weak. The first sign of adversity and you jump ship. It's likely your lives imitate this kind of pussified way of going about things.

Man up or shut up.

truth!

Using Kiffin and Dooley to defend Butch is laughable.

What do you want UT to do?

They aren't going to fire him and put out the money for a big proven name. They have shown that time after time.:hi:

You don't have to like where the program is but you don't have to burn it down either.

We lost to FLA and Bama. If it wasn't an unfortunate injury to Chubb and/or a dropped TD pass late in the game, we would have been 0-3 AGAIN to the "Hated 3."

Well, you can't have it both ways. S. Carolina was ranked 10-11 when we beat them in '13. They finished #4. If you want to say UT beat #4 S. Carolina, that's fine, but to be consistent UT beat #22 (or whatever they wound up) NW in the Outback Bowl.

We were the reason they dropped in rankings.

Why would you ask that? I doubt anyone is satisfied with that win. But, i can tell you this, it's more satisfying than beating a team in the stat box and walking away with 1 in the loss column. After 13 men against LSU, Music City Bowl penalty, Pig's fumble at the pylon, Outrushing the Gators et al over the last decade, I'll take the suck performance and the win this time when luck went our way.
Make no mistake. We've got legitimate issues. We may very well lose our "big 4"...we also may very well win against 3 of those. Weve seen this group of young men play better than they did Thursday night. Havent seen them play worseb which gives me hope.

To answer your comment. His team underperformed again.

So again, is your standard just to be a little better than Dooley?

It is a recurring problem. We've seen it before in games like North Texas but against bigger opponents too. Jones miscalculates and "manages" games poorly.

Do you really lay this all on the players? I'll agree that they played poorly and some especially on the OL played horribly. But how many times does that happen before responsibility rises above players?

It's amazing how many act as if the current level of talent has always been here through Jones' first 3 years. Pointing to a lack of big-time wins when you know the talent simply was not here is crazy and revisionist.

Instead of being appreciative for where we are, considering where we were, you complain about a win. This team still has all the potential and talent it had before App St., nothing has changed that. These are still the coaches who sky-rocketed the talent pool and have us on the 2nd longest winning streak in all of college football. This team will likely win 10+ games because of the players and coaches, yet so many want to cry-baby around after one of those wins.

Anyone who's played football for a while or even fans who've been watching for a while know that tight games with inferior opponents happen to even the best teams occasionally. There is no way of knowing how good or bad any team is after only 1 game. I can understand being concerned about issues you may have noticed, but the incredible panic-mode freak-outs are uncalled for and, as a fan, as embarrassing as the poorly played game vs. App St.

It's abundantly clear that Butch is incapable of making in game adjustments. I think he just believes in his system so much that he's willing to "live or die" with it. "Trust the process"...

Just a cheap, knockoff version of Nick Saban right now IMO. Hope he learns and changes that...

Can't play that game though. This is why.

If it wasn't for and unfortunate bust against Florida we would have...

If it wasn't for a late game fubmle, Sc would have....

If we could have gotten Baker Mayfield on the turf.....

Thats why they play the games.

And NOBODY expected the '85 Vols to win the SEC after losing a 16 point lead to UCLA....

And NOBODY expected the '85 Vols to stomp #1 Auburn in Knoxville

And NOBODY expected the '85 Vols to stomp Miami in the Sugar Bowl....

especially after all of the poor play during the '84 season seemed to continue on into the first game of the '85 season....

You see--you guys sound like the same 'ol broken record that has been playing for a long time....

I wonder what Ohio State's message board looked like a few years ago after they lost to a very bad Va. Tech team in the first week of the season??

Sorry, but you don't have to dig too deeply on here to find several such "negative" posts during the much-hyped run-up to the opener, as well as during the win streak, that openly expressed concern about bad in-game decisions, much too predictable play calling (especially on first down), and failure/unwillingness to make in-game adjustments in the name of "sticking with the game plan."

This is a forum, that's what a forum is for. It would be pretty boring if the only comments were variations on sunshine pumping. Not only that, it is possible to love Coach Jones and what he has done so far, while still daring to express concern over his perceived weaknesses and seeming inability to learn from mistakes.

And?

The only and I mean ONLY reason they were ranked where they were is because they beat Stanford in week 1.

Unless I missed something, the argument was about Butch beating ranked teams. He did. NW was ranked highly until UT beat them. SC proved to be a ranked team, even after we beat them. In either judgment (ranked at time we played, or ranked at end of season), Butch has done so. If you want to buck the ranking system, go ahead, but it's a different argument.

Georgia? A top-5 SC?
If Chubbs d8dnt go down literally in the first few minutes of that game last year, the outcome would have not been so favorable for us. I know, what ifs, what could have happens suck. But, don't hold that up as a key SEC win for CBJ. If we had won that game with a healthy chubby, then I would agree with ya...just sayin'

Came out of nowhere. Where were they all when we needed them 3 months ago? Threads like "Guantanamo vs Dormandy" and "Are Stars better than Offers?" and "How many injuries in 1st Week of Camp"!

We needed some input THEN! 2 days after a win, the whining and finger pointing need to subside. B@B is almost here!!!

You get either zero or all of the points for incorporating "Chubbs" and "healthy chubby" in your post.
