CBJ: "I blew my knee out before Kentucky game."

I just want to post in the thread with at least 5 contenders for dumbest post of the year....also yes any time for the rest of my life that I think of Tennessee's worst moments it will be the Dooley stool or him rolling down that ramp in the wheelchair.

Butch is coaching with pain and demonstrating resiliency
and toughness to all injured Vols:eek:lol:

The media that reports on UT are really bad. They are not reporters but are folks looking to create sensationalism to get their name out there.

The comments that were made about the Vol Walk that day were a childish attempt by folks to make news where none existed.
It's not just the Knoxville media. Being married to a journalist and author who understands with great clarity the true role of journalists I see our country coming to a crossroads. NO ONE TRUST THE MEDIA TO GIVE TRUE AND ACCURATE INFO. I think you'll see Trump doing more informative videos and less interviews with the corrupt networks. I think sports should gravitate this direction as well. Basically shut them down!!!

Dooley's SEC record: 4-19
Tennessee's 2016 SEC record: 4-3

Let's get to working on that dislike button, Freak!

It's so funny, now the unrealistic expectations are realistic but these clowns hate the guy responsible for that? He's done an incredible job. Are we disappointed in this year? Sure. But butch has brought us out of the abyss.

About as dumb as hiring the one dude that Dooley took to the woodshed in his entire tenure at UT.

Now that is just a dumb comment. You know as well as anyone with any common sense if you flipped the rosters that year, Butch would beat the brakes off of Dooley. :machgun:

A couple of thoughts: when your team is scoring a lot of points quickly, it does give the other guys more possessions and more time to put up yards. Dooley also never faced a season with the number of crucial injuries on defense we have had to endure.
Largely true. Maybe that had something to do with hiring better S&C staffs and managing injuries better?

I'm not saying there aren't some serious questions on the defensive side of the ball and on personnel choice and development, but comparing Butch to Dooley is utterly ridiculous.

It is. Jones overall is better than Dooley by miles.

The problem I keep running into with people here is that they want the standard to always be something other than what it should be. If Dooley is the standard.... then IMO the bar is set WAY too low. What do you think?

The only real question to me is "Does UT have a championship caliber coach?" Jones has done some really, really good things. He's a good program builder. But he also has some major and potentially fatal flaws that will prevent him from winning championships against the level of coaches he faces in the SEC. He's given evidence of those flaws since his first year and does not appear to be changing or improving. Examples include game management, attrition, high injury rates, game week prep, and possibly favoritism. He chose to keep a S&C coach who wasn't getting it done.

The "techniques" he teaches don't seem to work all that well and were questioned by a former Vol that played in the NFL in the first year.

He convinced all of us at least partly and most of us completely that all he needed was time to build a roster with talented, experienced, depth. It is painfully obvious that was just not enough to overcome some of his other flaws.

The "scheme" has succeeded inconsistently.

I agree with you sjt to an extent, but with the injuries, new DC this year and his record getting better every year he still gives me hope he can win the East every few years and possibly an SEC championship. I'm not convinced he can win a National Championship though. I'm fine with that after coming of the last 8-10 years. I hate his coach speech all the time.I hope he proves me wrong.

GO VOLS

I nominate this thread and the "Champions of Life" thread as the posts of the year. The shine is truly coming off of CBJ sh!t. I literally can't believe what I'm reading here this week.

I'll tell you this much.... i half believe that Butch purposely injured himself in order to emphasize this "woe is me" narrative that he's cultivated. I would not put it past him at all.

I would probably agree with you except for two patterns that have developed over the last 3 years. Jones has continued to have attrition rates near the bottom of the SEC. UT has had abnormally high injury rates for 3 years running... and Jones has not really addressed the S&C staff.

IOW's, not having the players needed to win due to injury and attrition aren't a new problem. It is now the norm for his teams.

I do agree with. I think to drive to the change that is needed in the media. Folks are going to need to control the dialogue to ensure the words are not misused. With social media and the internet you really don't need a reporter asking questions - one can just record the comments they need to make and be done with it.

The key is going to get those who need to listen to the entire message away from the "one liners" on Twitter so that they hear exactly what was said and not how the person spun the words to fit their agenda.

Must have hit pretty close to the mark to get the sunshine pumpers so riled up. We just got 700 yards of offense put up on us by one of the worst teams in the SEC. I didn't say that Butch was as bad as Dooley, but there are similarities even if the pumpers don't want to see. Underachieving D is right at the top of the list. To win in this league, you either have to recruit better than everybody else and develop talent better than everybody else and Butch isn't showing signs of doing either right now.

Sunshine pumper? Lol. Dooley gave up those yards with AJ Johnson and all of his 1st team guys. This year isn't comparable and it's funny that you think that it is lol.

Do you understand how players are developed? I ask that because some think that 4 years is enough to develop depth behind 1-2 recruiting classes. Since every player from Dooleys had to be upgraded it takes more than 4 years. I'm not naive enough to believe that you'll agree with me. We were beyond bad by the time Dooley left.

Four years is more than sufficient time even if you were right about what he was left. Which you aren't.

But aside from the roster, there are issues with his talent as a "coach". When a good coach has a bad roster, they lose games. But you can see that the team is well coached. Their schemes are well conceived and taught. They usually pop up and win a game here and there that they shouldn't have won. That's not what Jones has done.

Perhaps we shouldn't be naïve enough to believe you'll understand that setting a low bar and making excuses doesn't result in a championship program led by a championship caliber coach.
