CBJ comments on other coaches asking for advice

If you're doing fine and secure in yourself and your job, you don't need to justify anything by saying "other coaches support me". Why am I supposed to care if the coach for Eastern Michigan, NC State or wherever says something good about Jones at UT? When did that ever mean anything? Hell, Saban was backing Dooley even as Precious was trying his damndest to skip town and steal money from the university through coaching malpractice.

All that it says to me about Jones constantly referencing other coaching calling him about this that and the other is that he is in way over his head and should find a nice spot at a mid-major where he doesn't have to deal with the pressure of coaching at a big time program like UT.

So is Butch using anonymous "sources" to validate a story that cant be confirmed?

Weird I remember him and some fans bashing a guy that did that recently. Give me a second to think about who that was.

Come on man.

Had Butch dealt with the adversities of the season and the team had still reached its goals, then yeah, I can see some guys reaching out to a coach who finished 10-2 and played Bama for the SEC title. But calling a guy who failed miserably this season, adversities or not....I'm calling BS.....unless the calls were from high school or lower level collegiate coaches looking for a job or something. Legit coaches would've called guys like McElwain who dealt with and overcame adversity and had success.

My thoughts exactly. My guess is the calls never occurred or were from high school coaches.

Now You're just throwing crap against a wall.

I have zero confidence in Butch, but I can spot BS criticism.

Why is this so hard to believe? Most teams with the amount of injuries UT had would have lost more than 4 games and not been competitive. Keeping a team focused during that is not easy.

Haven't read other comments but predict this will get flamed...no room for rational thoughts on VN.

How is it any different?

People bashed Haney for using anonymous sources that cant be confirned to write an article about the cuture of the team. He got bashed for using anonymous sources but the article illustrates problems that nearly everyone can see, excpet those blinded by the sunshine.

CBJ is saying unnamed people are talking and asking for advice on an attmept to validate what he is doing here. So none of it.can be confimred because no coach is going to come out and say they called Butch Jones for advice.

Its just laughable man.

I get what you're saying, but the problem is, one guy is a journalist.

I assume you are not one of the ones who were embarrassed and tired of Butch "Coach Speak." He can say all of the right things, cliches, etc, and he gets burned for being too boring and predictable. When he comes out and starts defending his players (champions of life) and coaching adversities, he now needs to reign it in and stop embarrassing the university? We all called for more honesty, and that is what we are getting imo.

Agree. He can't win...unless he wins. Prob best thing is to shut down all social media and interviews until we beat Nebraska...and we will. If the dude had meatloaf for Christmas instead of turkey there would be a stupid article scrutinizing he choice of meat for the holidays.

This game can't come fast enough to at least give VN new topics of discussion.

Based on what? Butch himself said his roster at the beginning of the year was capable of winning every game. When you say "most" you are saying Butch coached at the high end. That's nonsense.

Correct, a respected jounalist whom other journalist say no.way he writes that story without an actual source.

The other is a walking laughing stock of a cliche that seems to not see how stupid he looks covering for his cliches.

While he had them on the phone he should have asked how to reduce injuries since his have been higher than average for the last 3 years and he's done NOTHING effective to address it.

Your "choice of meat" point makes it appear as though the criticism of CBJ is completely unwarranted. Not only does he not won games he should win, he says stupud stuff everyone knows is not true and then doubles down on the stupidity.

He invites the criticism on himself.

Not saying he gets a pass for poor self awareness with press or losses at SC and Vandy. But players like him and seems as though recruits all note the family atmosphere in their commitment comments. Jones probably could have framed the champions of life thing differently, but he was coming from a good place when he said it...just don't think it deserves a month long lashing, when everyone can see that he has kids out doing more community service and keeping out of trouble. He just needs to not lose to Vandy.

I haven't found a full transcript; just some quotes in a few places. Pretty sure it was just a standard pre bowl presser.

Funny thing was, I was looking for some context and in the next comments, I think he said resolve or resiliency 4 or 5 times.

Not from him, he's not capable of genuinely discussing anything at a press conference. I'm fine with him just sticking to his cliches, it keeps him out of trouble. I don't care if he's boring and predictable at this point, just shut up with all the crap that makes him and the program a laughingstock. That's not too much to ask is it?

He begs for it. SID or AD or University President or Governor Haslam.....somebody, anybody has got to get in his ear and get him to clean this stuff up.
