Do you mean franchise historywise or in relation to other teams that were really bad in one playoff year?
The fact of the matter is that mediocre teams generally don't fare well on the road come playoff time. Look how bad Miami and New Orleans were this year. The Hawks franchise playoff history has been on hiatus for about a decade, so it's tough to draw a comparison.
But it's a little beyond just this year. Granted, last year's problems came against the World Champs, but this makes about 5 or 6 times in the past 2 years that the Hawks have gotten absolutely dismantled on the road. They just don't show up.
. . . and as I type this, the Hawks go down by 36 in the 3rd quarter.
They should have gassed Woodson two years ago and hired Larry Brown when they had the chance. So if Miami is that bad, what does it say that the Hawks got decimated by them 3 times including a beatdown in Atlanta? I don't think anybody has out of this world expectations for the Hawks, but is it too much to ask them to at least show up?
I was just sitting here thinking that they haven't gotten it right since Fratello. I also think they are still getting punished for selling out Dominique Wilkins and thinking Danny Manning would take them to the promised land.I honestly don't think the franchise ever fully recovered from unjustly firing Mike Fratello.
We're thinking along the same lines. I started to mention that abortion of a trade in my previous post. I remember walking into Game 1 of their series against the Knicks that year with a friend who is a huge Hawks fan. He was talking about how the Hawks matched up with the Spurs. I explained to him that he had lost his mind and that Atlanta wouldn't make it out of that series, let alone get to The Finals.I was just sitting here thinking that they haven't gotten it right since Fratello. If Pat Riley or Chuck Daly had been coaching Wilkens' Cleveland teams, the Bulls dynasty would have never gotten off the ground.I can't imagine what it was about the Patrick Ewing vs. Kevin Willis/Jon Koncak matchup that gave you pause.
Lenny Wilkens had to be the most overrated coach in the history of man.
Larry Nance and Oak would be a wash. Riley or Daly would have never allowed the idiotic trade that sent Ron Harper to LA for Danny Ferry to happen.Riley would of had better success with Cleveland than he did with New York?
Brad Daugherty was good but no Ewing.
I dont really remember a whole lot about Larry Nance, but I think Oakley was a better player at the 4. Did Nance play PF?
Id take Starks & Rivers over Gerald Wilkins & Ehlo.
Mark Price was definitely better than anything NY had at the point
The Knicks had X-man, Hubert Davis & D-Mase, im biased but I think the Bulls still win 5 titles in the 90's. Dont know if you consider that a dynasty tho.
