Cats say we cheated in the first half

They remind me of Vandy fans how they always have an excuse for losing yet the result is always the same. Well, atleast the last 23 times anyways. I'm viewing and typing this on my Wii so it's a little difficult. Lets add another 23 years to the streak.

Apparently our magic first half play stealing binoculars were broken during the Cal, Florida and Bama games...

I heard a story from my brother who works for the City of Knox. There was supposedly a guy with press credentials behind our bench with binocs and a cell phone calling our signals to the Vandy coaches. The Knox. PD removed him from the stadium. I figure the two stories have about equal validity, little or none.

:lolabove: Wonder if Brooks wants a bit of cheese with that w(h)ine???

If Brooks wants to blame somebody, he oughta be looking at his own staff. After the int in the second OT and they had been scoring at will against us, they play for the FG instead of the touchdown? Insane, if you ask me. A FG is just like a pass. Three things can happen and two of them are bad.

Brooks should be ashamed for saying something so stupid. His players gave their all and should be proud of their efforts. They left nothing on the field and their sore loser coach is tarnishing that by opening his whining mouth. Pitiful.

I did notice a kid on the UK sidelines holding up a towel several times when sending in plays. They must have thought we were stealing signals??:dunno:

Watch the replay of the game, there are a couple of shots of the UK booth with Asst Coaches peeping through binoculars. I guess he was just watching the cheerleaders do their leg kicks...... :)

hmmm. So we watch them spygate style the first half, but come out and get shell-shocked the second half. We need to take lessons from the Patriots on how to steal sign correctly.

/sarcasm

The radio announcers on the UK-UT broadcast yesterday mentioned several times during the second half that it appeared UK thought UT had been stealing UK offensive signs signaled in from the sidelines. They said in the second half UK posted one and then two managers holding up towells so a UT coach with binoculars up in the booth could not see the signs. Since the UK offense did much better the second half, did the signal stealing acctually occur? If so, should UT be fined as New England was?

Coach Brooks said in the post-game show that UT was stealing signals in the first half. Which is why they were holding up the towels in the second half to conceal the signals. However, he also said that it is not a violation of the rules since they were not video taping the signs as New England did.

I view this as a baseball type thing. Teams steal other teams hand signals all the time. If you dont want that to happen, change them up or do a different method.

It is not illegal to steal the signals, you just can't use recording devices etc. There is always someone watching signals. The Pats used a Video recorder

UK's second half success was a direct result of our soft defense after gaining a decent lead. That and they finally figured out that if they spread us out, they were going to have some open receivers.

I also read on the catspause board that we cheated in another way as well.

Apparently someone, who was there, saw a UT player on defense move the ball back a foot or so after it had been spotted by the refs and Kentucky was huddled up. So no Kentucky players saw it and 'some how' the refs nor the coaches saw it either. The post says that the TV announcers even mentioned it but I never heard it.. they may have been talking about radio broadcasters but I'm not sure.

The funny thing is everyone on that board believes it and someone said they had a lot of people going psycho in the stands when it happened. How could one of the UK coaches, refs, or just some SEC person up in the box not see something like that. It was a waste of my life.

Bob Kesling said that early in the second half (when we were still laying the wood) the clock was not being run on a few plays, ultimately extending the game. Keep in mind this was said when UT was dominating and any chance of a UK comeback looked extremely bleak. If you'll recall, UK needed every second they could get at the end of the game.

I know all of us in my section noticed the clock either didn't start or was very slow to start on several occasions in the second half. Especially mid to late 4th quarter.

Well, evidently Fulmer spoke to the officials about it sometime in the third quarter.

I love living in this state between football season and the time basketball really gets rolling.

I was watching on TV and heard some reference to this by the TV talking heads. Didn't pay much attention to the reference myself, and the talking heads only mentioned it in passing.

Isn't the official game clock kept by an official on the field. They are always telling the clock dude to please reset the clock to so many seconds. It's not like Bama that broke the play clock when we were on the field.

Yes, but please don't trivialize the play clock. If you want to gain some appreciation for the intricacies involved, I refer you back to this post.

If someone got away with that hats off to them.
