Personally i think he's one of the most underrated player in UT's history. He is second in almost every Tennessee plassing category behind one of the greatest QB in CF history. People saying that he didn't produce with talent behind him are idiots. He had 22TDs in 2001 which is pretty good for a Soph. QB. Junior year he was injured and senior year he absolutely carried the team his senior year, the season he was most productive, with mostly freshman WRs. He was 2-0 at the swamp and 3-1 vs. FL all time. The only team he really stuggled against was FL. Our defense lost the 2001 SECCG, so don't put that on him. Who would have thought a backup named Matt Mauck would led LSU to victory. He is one of my favorite players in UT history. Hopefully he can send a few top recruits our way!

Your thoughts?????

on and btw one of my favorite articles ever.....

You look at how Erik Ainge did under Sanders with some pretty good receivers. Then you look at how Casey Clausen did under Sanders with no running game and some bad to mediocre receivers. He was a pretty good player that was wasted by a complacent coaching staff.

He had a ton of talent around him. No one can argue that. Personally, I liked Clausen. And I do think he is underrated. His only fault is not playing with enough fire. He never had a sense of urgency.

Think about it this way...Clausen was 1 win away from winning the SEC Championship and playing for a National Title in the Rose Bowl.

He might have had a ton of talent around him, but he still had to deliver.

For his freshman and sophomore seasons. After that, no freaking way he had a ton of anything beyond mediocrity. And if you don't think he had any fire, you should ask some of the officials that made bad calls during his time here.

Casey wasn't the most gifted QB when it came to physical aspects, but I always felt "safe" when he was passing the ball. He was a pretty good decision maker and he was a decent leader. I didn't worry about him dropping back to throw as much as others.

I don't think the receivers were really that bad, it's just that the running game disappeared in '02 and '03.

I agree. He reminded me a lot of Andy Kelly with a lesser supporting cast.

Tony Brown and Montrell Jones weren't helping Casey out much after Kelley Washington went down. Then in 03 there were some decent young receivers, but I mean you still never had anyone step up to take over. There were still guys emerging in Casey's last game. Fayton, Hannon, Swain... I kept waiting for one of them to step up, but it never happened.

You're dead on about the running game, though.

about average, had a lot of heart and gave his all for TN, always thought of negatively because he was a huge dickhead around campus.

still lol @ him trying to cut te entire line for taco bell because he "had practice" during the Friday of Spring Break 2003

Underrated. I would kill to have him playing here right now. He had a weak arm, was slower than anybody I've ever seen, but he was a gamer. Mark Jones, Fayton, and Tony Brown were not much, if any, better than the core we have now.

Mark Jones was pretty good, but only played WR one year. Fayton didn't get good (or get PT) until later in his career. Tony Brown had good hands, but wasn't a gamebreaker.
