Earlier today i ate lunch with my grandparents, sister, and cousin to celebrate my grandfather's birthday. During lunch my grandfather started to talk UT football, naturally we talked mostly about the upcoming season. In the middle of this conversation my grandmother interrupts. Apparently they have in their possession a game day Casey Clausen jersey, signed by Phillip Fulmer, that she got in an auction Casey's senior year which was to be a Christmas present for me (she is notorious for forgetting where she has put gifts and even putting the wrong name on gifts).

She said she picked it up at the auction for $3...she was the only one who bid on it...:birgits_giggle:

Just thought i'd share this story with the people of volnation. I know Clausen isn't the most celebrated or favorite of the QB's in UT's history, but i thought at that point in time someone would bid more than $3 for it :dunno:

People think Clausen was a punk.

I think he was an amazing player.

He ran like crazy legs so it was funny to watch him scramble, but he was tough, accurate, and got the job done for the most part. I'd definitely love to have him right now, as well as the rest of the Volnation who are sweating at the thought of Crompton looking good now, and possibly crumbling later.

so for 6 years she forgot the jersey was in her possession but remembers exactly what she paid?

Wonder of the Fulmer signature devalued the jersey? I would have payed more for a QB that beat Alabama in 5 overtimes.

I liked Casey and always will. I got to know him quite well and he is a good guy.

my thoughts exactly...still perplexed by the lack of interest shown by the auctioners (auctionees?, audience? whatever)

good question, my grandparents have been cleaning out their garage recently. she came across the jersey which must've jogged her memory, believe me i'm just as skeptical as you are about the actuality of this claim, however if you knew my grandmother you would know just how frequently she does this sort of thing with gifts.

not quite sure if i want to...i mean i didn't like fulmer and i wanted to see him leave, but i did like clausen

if anything it is most definitely a great piece of UT's history. if i end up wanting to sell it i'll either post it in here or make a new thread, tho i doubt i'll end up selling it

I still can't figure out why some people didn't like Casey, He was one hell of a qb and easily one of the best road QB's I have ever seen...The man was a warrior and certainly deserves more respect than he has gotten.

That crowd seems to be shrinking as time goes by (and as we got worse). Frankly he is my favorite Vol of this decade. He fully embodied "give your all for Tennessee today".

Guess they would have had to pay your grandmother $$$$ to take it if it had been an Ainge jersey. Especially the one worn at LSU!
