Sounds about what you would expect from someone who doesn't have an agenda against CLK. He took a basically poor team and improved it significantly. he will continue to make it better as time goes on.

"They're going to beat Virginia Tech,'' he said, "And then Florida will be down next season, and they'll beat them, too.

I like it...:crossfingers:

Who is the anonymous assistant coach? Todd McNair, Brennan Carroll, Ken Norton Jr., Pat Ruel, Rocky Seto or perhaps it was Brian Schneider who is now on USC's staff but was CLK's Special Team coach at Oakland.

Great article. I love when you leave the Southeast for a moment and get answers that come from an unbiased mouth. The truth is coming and it changes windbreakers at halftime. Watch out Urb.

Pete Carroll's thoughts on Kiffin's first year at UT | Ask Griff | GoVolsXtra.com

"Lane didn't work with the quarterbacks; he was the receivers coach,'' Carroll said. "But he has a really good offensive mind, for sure, and he has a big system behind him.''

Yes, it appears UT is essentially "USC East" with a little Jim Chaney high-percentage passing mixed in.

It's an excellent combination, for sure.

Griff, you are an absolutely atrocious writer. How exactly do your statements that I highlighted in red derive from Carroll's quotes that immediately preceded them?

Good article. I wonder what he meant by not very personal? I may be misinterpreting this but every time I've ever met CLK, he's been super nice to me. Shoot, he offered to sign me an autograph, I didn't have to ask him.....As for that being unbiased, I don't know so much about that but I think you could ask any other coach in the country and they would say that we are definitely a vastly improved team over last year, this team competed to the final whistle all year with the exception of the Ole Miss game, should have beat Bama, and played Florida pretty well.....Couldn't ask for much more as a fan this year

Pete Carroll's thoughts on Kiffin's first year at UT | Ask Griff | GoVolsXtra.com

As for Kiffin's work as a receivers coach, it reminded me of how former UT offensive coordinator Randy Sanders worked with running backs and receivers before taking over as quarterbacks coach/offensive coordinator.

It reminded you of Sanders because both Sanders and Lane Kiffin coached other offensive positions before becoming an offensive coordinator? Are you serious? Is there anything else at all that they have in common? They sure don't have similar offensive philosophies or coaching styles. Let's try this. Can you name an offensive coordinator anywhere in college or pro football that HASN'T coached other offensive positions before becoming an offensive coordinator?

This "article" is an absolute joke. Were you a high school student submitting this as a paper, it would be poorly written. As a "professional" writer, you should be embarrassed for issuing this level of refuse.

Ashamed for what? Going out of my way to spend a few minutes with Pete Carroll and getting his impressions of Lane and writing them?

I don't get that...it is what it is...not going to sensationalize what Carroll said to impress anyone

UT is obviously running an offense very similar to USCs -- I saw the Trojans run the same stuff each time I covered them in the BCS title games this decade

Sorry to do this but will someone cut and paste the article on here. My work has it blocked. Thanks

Pete Carroll's thoughts on Kiffin's first year at UT

LOS ANGELES -- USC coach Pete Carroll loves talking about Lane Kiffin.

That much was obvious when I ran into Carroll at the Galen Center after the Trojans handed the Tennessee basketball team a 22-point waxing.

"I thought they had a good, successful first year,'' Carroll said, asked his impressions of Lane as a head coach. "I didn't get to see that much of them on TV, so I don't know exactly what they did.

"But they continued to get better as the year went on, and they are really recruiting extremely hard.''

Carroll had reason to be impressed with Kiffn's 7-5 regular season campaign with the Vols- the Trojans were only 6-6 in Carroll's first season.

I asked Carroll if he knew how good Kiffin would do with quarterback Jonathan Crompton based on his work as the USC offensive coordinator.

As for Kiffin's work as a receivers coach, it reminded me of how former UT offensive coordinator Randy Sanders worked with running backs and receivers before taking over as quarterbacks coach/offensive coordinator.

I parted with Carroll reminding him of a pick-up basketball game I played against him at the local YMCA during Senior Bowl week in Mobile in 1997 when he was head coach of the New England Patriots.

"Was I hitting my shots that day?'' he asked.

Pete, 12 years younger, hit his share. The thing I remember was that he had his assistant coaches as teammates, and they all made sure they passed the ball to him on each trip down the floor.

He was clearly "The Man,'' regardless of his pickup basketball talents. I guess it's like that when you're the boss.

I had run into another Trojans' staff member the day before, and drilled him on Kiffin as well.

I asked what Tennessee fans and media could expect from Kiffin once we got to know him better.

"What you see is what you're going to get; he's not very personal,'' the USC coach said. "That's him. His dad's just the greatest guy you'll ever meet.''

The USC staff member said he, too, thought Kiffin had a brilliant offensive mind and would fare well.

"They're going to beat Virginia Tech,'' he said, "And then Florida will be down next season, and they'll beat them, too.

"Lane is a tireless worker, and he's an incredible recruiter.''

As if a Florida fan is "unbiased".

Have fun without Jesus Christ guiding your team next year.

I never said I was unbiased about Kiffin. Quite the contrary, in fact.

I'm just laughing at the ones on here who say that Pete Caroll is unbiased, either about Kiffin or an opportunity to take a little jab at one of the teams actually competing against him.

LG, neither USC nor UF were "'all that" this year.

I'd think both fan bases should be a little concerned. Neither coach can keep getting the same level of talent they've had if they keep failing to win championships that they are overwhelmly favored to win based on the talent they have.
