Carolina Panthers

This was a game they would have lost last season, maybe even early this season prior to the "Riverboat Ron" era beginning.

I like the new, improved version of Ron Rivera, the "Riverboat Ron." Had "Riverboat" been around for the Buffalo game, I suspect we'd be 9-2 right now.

As the game finished, the Fox crew posted a stat that I found quite incredible. Since November of last year, Carolina ties with Denver as number two in most wins (in other words, in total record). Forgot who one was already. Anyone recall?

Seattle at 15-1

Seattle at 15-1

Yeah, that sounds right. Unfortunate that season's don't quite work that way though. We'd have home field advantage until the Seattle game. Anyhow, destiny is still in our hands. Beat NO twice (or even once), and it may very well be the same outcome that I alluded to above.

As an aside, it's wonderful to see the Panthers in this position. Hopefully they remain competitive like this for years to come, because 5 years is too long of a gap to not be in the playoffs...

Though I truly believe they are capable of making it to the Super Bowl, I am going to try to just be happy with a playoff appearance.
Actually, now that I think about it, I will be pretty furious if we go get knocked out in the opening round by a team like the Cowboys.

I thought this was a neat "what if" type column.

Early predictions for the NO game? This is going to be a tight one. So much so, it's hard for me to call it, but if a gun was held to my head, I'd say the Saints win. Then we get them in Charlotte. Hope we get them both times.

If Jimmy Graham goes crazy, Saints win. Otherwise, I like Carolina's chances. They're not scared to play on the road and the Saints looked like absolute dogsh!t on Monday night. I don't think they are physical enough to hang with Carolina, Seattle, or San Francisco.

I believe this one is a loss, my friends. We almost can't win the division now, even if we beat them in Charlotte.
We just need to make sure we win the games we should win...NYJ/Atl

No. Top two seeds are pretty well set in (1) Seattle and (2) New Orleans, based on all tie breaker scenarios and schedules remaining for each team. Carolina is still in good shape for the first Wild Card slot, but have to take care of business, as you mentioned.

Why did you say NO? You agreed with me. They can't win division now but will still easily get in if they beat the bad teams left on the schedule.

I'm still recovering from that beatdown last night. Hurt even more because of how well we started out. Looked like it was going to be a good one; then Drew Brees happened. Oh well, on to NYJ. Should be a lot more winnable.

We are not losing to N.O. this week!

Man, I so badly want Smitty's prediction to come true. After we lost to Seattle in week one, he talked about seeing them again in the playoffs.
I think we are the only team capable of beating them in Seattle. Not that we definitely will, I just don't think anyone else would have a shot.

No excuse for it not to be a close game this time. A division title and first round bye is on the line...
