Surprised this happened in the middle of the season, but I'm glad it did. Can't wait to see someone come in and shape things up. I hope Ron Rivera is held to a high standard for the rest of the season. So disappointed with the way he's turned out as a head coach. I really thought he was going to be a guy to get these players fired up. I was waaay off.

I feel for ya. I hate to say it, but I believe he's washed up. Doesn't get great separation anymore and isn't tall enough to go up and get it without the crazy hops he used to have. I think he's done, but I have been wrong about him before (see last year).

Smith isn't the problem. They have no offensive identity and Newton has been awful this year. Chud looked like an offensive genius last year, so I'm not sure what has happened to the offense.

Newton should go in and refuse to run another read option until they've got the passing attack on the same page. it's hindering his growth, and just not working.

Anybody think that Williams gets traded before the deadline? I have my doubts, mostly because NFL deadline deals are few and far between (and almost never involve stars or potential stars) and I don't think the Panthers front office has any sense of direction right now. Something to keep an eye on though. He'd be a great fit in Green Bay.

How would you feel about Chip Kelly taking the Panthers job? I haven't read anything linking him, but he does have NFL aspirations.

Not sure if Cam can get his mechanics fixed. The only hope we have of that coming into fruition is getting the guy some more help on the offensive line and finding an offensive coordinator who has a clue. Otherwise, I fear Cam will bust...

I'm not certain that the OC is the issue. They weren't bad on offense last year, although Newton did have a lot of inopportune turnovers. I think Rivera is the problem. There's probably some reason he'd interviewed unsuccessfully 8 or 9 times prior to being hired in Charlotte. Part of the blame may fall on Newton as well. He's regressed.

That was a tough assignment going into Kansas City after the shooting incident. The Chiefs played nearly a flawless game. Still, Carolina has no excuse for letting Brady Quinn do a Peyton Manning impression. The Panthers should have won that game. There is something wrong there.

This entire coaching staff needs to be fired immediately. No excuse for a lot of the losses this year. This is a talented team with no direction.

After watching Louis Murphy drop a ball he should have had for a TD, I must ask, when will we draft a WR that will eventually replace Smitty?
