Carolina Panthers

Don't think Smith showed up today. I read that Matt Moore was the only one to show up and leave without a play book. When someone asked him (stupid question) what number will Newton wear, he said, "who knows, maybe #3." Moore is/was #3.
I hate to see him go. I'd rather see him start the season than Clausen to give Newton more time. Moore started three games last year and threw six TDs. Clausen started 13 games, and threw for three TDs.

Very interesting. If the Panthers have a bad start, how long do you think it will take before they stick Newton in there?

Depends on who is the starter. If it's Jimmy and he's playing like we know he will, I think they'll go for Newton sooner rather than later. But I rarely know what I'm talking about.
Can't believe how much they gave Johnson. I'm so glad they got that deal finalized, but I'm worried now about being able to keep Williams.
I could see us showing interest in Jonathan Joseph, Eric Weddle, Malcom Floyd or even Sidney Rice.

That's one heck of a deal for an injury-prone RB. $21 million guaranteed. Really???
I'm glad we resigned him, but I thought it would be a three year deal...max.

so, we signed Jeff King 2.0, in Ben Hartsock...a blocking TE. Also, we signed Olindo Mare to a four year deal. I'm genuinely sad about losing John Kasay, because I'm guessing this means he's gone. also, he is steve smith's best friend and the guy known for reeling him in when he gets upset in the locker room. hope these two aren't connected with this move.

ron edwards. I like this guy. he's a solid NT that has been a difference maker in KC for a few years. Good depth for our dline.

Sources have indicated to Pro Football Weekly that WR Steve Smith is expected to remain a Panther this season after rumors had circulated around the league that he would be traded this offseason.

When reached for comment, Smith said he had none but indicated he would report to camp with his teammates as scheduled on Friday.

:pepper:

Can't wait to see what what happen in the next couple of days. I think resigning Johnson will be priority #1, while Williams comes in at a close second.
After the way Anderson played last year, I wonder if he's become more of a priority than Davis.

I can't believe all of this happened.

Greg Olsen is now a Panther. Got him for a 3rd round pick in 2012.
They are giving Cam all the tools he needs to lead a stellar offense. Now if they'd just sign a CB, we'd have one hell of a roster.

Love that pickup. But I'm not too optimistic about next season though, even with all the new additions. Still need a few more key pieces that need to be addressed in the next draft to challenge for the south, imo.

That is a very good move. It could add a couple of wins by itself.

True. That would make the total 2 this season, potentially.

I keed. Kinda.

I really don't know what to expect out of most teams in a season like this. I don't think it is possible for Carolina to be as bad as last year though.

I've noticed that former Vol Omar Gaither has signed with Carolina as well. Originally from the Charlotte area, so going home in a matter of speaking. Liked him when he was at UT, has been productive for the Eagles. Solid pickup. Panthers have an excellent group of LB, top to bottom.

Also, Matt Moore signed with Miami a couple days ago. At this point, I can't think of a veteran QB that would/could be brought in to mentor Clausen/Newton/Pike. Some talk about Jake coming back, but that would be an uncomfortable situation for all parties.

Aside from the fact that he's washed up.

Getting the feeling they're going to let Cam go out there and mix it up. That's obviously the key to the season because barring injury this is a potentially dangerous group of players.

That being said this schedule is brutal for a last place team.

The Panthers just signed Derek Anderson according to sources. I like the pickup more than signing Bulger or Delhomme. Hopefully he's the starter most of the season so Cam can sit and learn the pro game.

Edit: Now said sources are backing off their original reports that he has signed and are instead saying that the Panthers and Anderson will meet tomorrow and he will most likely sign.

they haven't signed him yet, but will meet with him today. I think this signing is rad.
They need a veteran QB to help the younger guys. There isn't a good vet available, so at least here they get a Chud-vet. Remember, Anderson went to the pro-bowl the year he played with Chud as his OC.
Also, we might sign Carlos Rogers today. That would be a stellar signing, IMO.
He's not a shutdown corner, exactly, but I still think he'd make us a lot better than we're looking right now in the defensive backfield.
