Carolina Panthers

Happy Draft Day to you and yours!
What do you guys think about tonight? We did a mock draft on my podcast where we went back and forth swapping picks, and I took Vernon Butler for Carolina. I'd be happy with that.
I've got a feeling Hunter Henry is going to be who they go with tonight, unless someone outstanding falls.
I could also see Ogbah or Dodd. What say you?

Edit: I just read something from a guy who nailed our pick last year that the draft tree for tonight looks like this:
Coleman/Butler/H.Henry/Ogbah/D.Henry
If that's true, Butler could be our guy. I really hope so!

Who's the guy? I'd be interested to read his stuff.

DG doesn't go for need, we know that. i think they feel pretty good about the offensive side of the ball, so unless there's some stud OT or WR sitting there at 30 i expect a defensive pick.

i'm with you, i think it'll be a DT. but i won't be surprised if it's a Safety either.

i'm interested in Hunter Henry. that kid is gonna be good. i wouldn't be upset if they picked him up.

I'm hoping for a pass rusher that can replace Johnson after this year, or an OT like Ifedi that can eventually replace Oher. I think they may wait on DTs because this is a really deep draft of them, but I do like Butler.

the reality is, you never know with DG....i'll stick with DT as the pick. but honestly, not sure anything would surprise me at this point.

the good thing is they don't have to really do anything according to a plan. while we do have needs, there's nothing overly glaring, even with the departure of JN...

who ever they have at the top of their board, of who's available is who they're picking

I agree. I'm glad the Panthers take talent over need, and they're among the best in the NFL (THE best, IMO) at evaluating talent.

I just hope that strategy can lead to a fix that keeps the tackles from getting dominated like they did in the SB, but maybe Daryl Williams can help in that regard.

I could envision a trade back into early second round and then take the haul from that trade to move up from their own second round slot. In the end, two high second round picks.

Dallas and Cleveland will want to trade up ahead of Denver.
I think I'd rather go ahead and snag a Butler or Dodd before they go.

Assuming Myles Jack were to be there at 30, and he's the BPA, do the Panthers take him? They aren't opposed the taking guys with medical concerns.

Like the pick a lot. We gave up several late leads last season and had to win late. This guy rotates in on passing downs and keeps the line fresh. Gettleman hasn't let us down so far.

Round two-I see us trying to trade up for Hunter or Derrick Henry. If we can't do that, look for a us to go with a guy like Sterling Shepard. I'd be okay with either of those guys in round two. Would love to not give up too much for them, though.
I'd like to see a Kendall Fuller in Carolina if those guys are gone.

As excited as I was about the 1st round pick, I'm even more excited about the 2nd. This draft has a ton of talent in the 2-4 range.

If we stay where we are, I love Su'a Cravens out of USC. Can come in and replace Harper at SS and if he bulks up, he can be added to an already stacked LB corps, as a possible TD replacement down the road.

I think the Panthers are big fans of Cravens as well. Can't remember where I saw it.

I've heard both McShay and Josh Norris rave about the Samford kid. I'm okay with it because of his size and physicality. Worley is a risk because of his past. I just don't understand making that pick with Fuller still on the board.
Hoping for Joe Haeg today or maybe a Braxton Miller or Pharoh Cooper.

Keyaris Garrett, the UDFA WR that signed with the Panthers going against our 5th round pick Sanchez. I think he's got a great shot at making the team. Possibly a Bersin replacement.

How in the world did Jeremy Cash not get drafted? We signed him UDFA and I'd be shocked if he didn't make the team. He makes me feel better about this group. I wanted him with our early 5th round pick.

It's a good sign, but still a little strange because Sanchez seems like maybe the only slot corner on the roster. Maybe they plan on using Colin Jones heavily there again or using Benwikere, even though they said they'd move him outside.

Benwikere is the #1 now, I'm thinking he stays outside with Worley/Bradberry at the #2 and McClain in the nickel with Sanchez rotating in. Sounds like we are going youth-heavy in the defensive backfield. Scary thought, but if the front seven can bring consistent pressure, it can be masked a bit...

No on Jones, please. He's great on special teams and at safety, but too slow at nickel. He got torched repeatedly last season.
