So going to wichita by way of the kc airport for a few days at the end of the month. From a Wednesday to Saturday. Best rates for a standard sized car is like $45 a day. If we would rent on Thursday, the rate would fall to $15 a day.

Does anyone have any tips/suggestions on getting a better rate from a Wednesday to Saturday?

Thanks!

can you do a one day rental for Wed and make a separate reservation that starts on Thurs?

not really that familiar with the process. My wife travels for work so I let her handle cars and hotels

Have you tried Priceline.com?

I use them all the time and it has worked out really well for me.. Priceline.com | Best deal on Hotels, Flights, Cars, Vacations & more!

I am trying priceline but no luck so far. We are flying into kc and then driving to wichita. Looked at the one day rental deal, but then you are slammed for one way rentals.

Rental car companies raise the rates during the work week because less cars going out and because mostly business people driving them and companies will pay the bill, so renters don't really care.

I always use kayak or go directly to the rental car's website.

I know this may sound stupid. But what if I rented the car for just Wednesday. Then on Thursday I call to see if I can extend it until Saturday. Do you think the rental rate would be at the lower rate?

Call the rental company, they should give you a different rate. Wish I could tell you the inner workings as I used to work for Budget, but I only washed them.

If you have rented with a company before & you're in good standing with them they will usually work something out with you. I've never got anything close to $15 a day though.

You can try but probably not. Depending on what their occupancy is for the weekend, they may have already rented that car. It really depends on how busy they are for that weekend. I used to work at Entetprise back in the day BTW.

Call them on Thursday am and tell them you want to keep the car through the weekend. They may work with you. If you were staying local, would be easy because you could just return the car on Thursday and then rerent the car. In the alternative, try Priceline as others suggested

Thanks. Problem is not stayin local. Renting in KC and then driving to Wichita. Probably shouldn't chance it.

Check hotwire and Travelzoo. Through hotwire, I could rent a car in Vegas the first weekend in November for as little as $11/day.

Also, I forgot to check Budget, but Alamo is waaay cheaper than Enterprise or Hertz, if you go the direct route.

I think local just means that you return it to the same place.

They won't come get it from you. Worst they'll do is charge you full rate for the days you keep it.

I once kept a rental car for 30 days. They were calling me everyday asking me to bring it back to the airport so the oil could be changed.

I don't think they believed I had it any more.

Does Roadrunner go to Wichita? I know it went from KC to Manhattan when I was there. If you are looking to save money and an extra hour or two is not an issue, you might just rent and return in Wichita and use Roadrunner to get you there and back.

Well got the vehicle thru priceline. Not great price overall, but a lot cheaper than going thru the company. Got midsize SUV with hertz for $36 a day. Not sure what the selection will be.
