Candace Parker Best WNBA Player 2017

Of course Candace was the best player..... but was not chosen.....

I kinda was not surprised..... USA Basketball will tell people that the coach does not make the decision, but perhaps there is influence there....

To be fair, as an older person, I remember the Pat coached 84 Olympic team.... and Henry and Noble from Tennessee were part of the team of 12, and that is before we won our 1st championship and put our stamp on the game.... Nobody had more players on that team than we did.... It often comes down to who the coach is comfortable with right or wrong.....

For the UConn fans questioning Candace's commitment as a teammate or implying that she's selfish, I am 100% confident that she would be revered by the same critics if she had attended UConn instead of Tennessee.

And Taurasi would be loved by LV fans had she worn orange instead of punching it.

But I doubt either would have lasted long before transferring had they signed for each other's coach. Parker wasn't cut out to take Geno's criticism and Taurasi wasn't cut out for bible-thumping and prayer meetings.

I don't get the B part of your post.

I will be the first (and I've said this before) to admit that I only dislike Diana because she played for UConn and would've been a fan if she played for Tennessee. Are you honest enough to say the same about Candace.

And to correct your statement above, "Taurasi wasn't cut out to play for a program where her constant swearing, propensity for technical fouls and constantly putting herself first over the team wouldn't be tolerated".

You're welcome.

Well, Taurasi didn't pick up many Tech's in college. That's a pro trait. And let's not forget that as a pro Parker developed a little drama queen attitude herself, complaining to the refs while the the game went down the other end of the court. And you are the first one who ever suggested that as a collegian Taurasi put herself ahead of her team. You are out on a ledge alone with that opinion.

I honestly can't say how i would feel about Parker as a Husky. A lot of what I disliked about her was that she beat UConn. That and the way the media fawned over her. But I always liked Catchings so there's something else about Parker, other than simply that she was a LV. Maybe it is that her smirk reminds me of Laettner. :)

I'm not sure that Parker's numbers warrant her selection. There are several players that are having better seasons, including Ogwumike. I Think that Fowles and Charles were also more deserving.

As for Taurasi, just like Parker, she was not a selfish player.
She led the team in assists her last two years at UConn.

It's okay for their own former player to have words with the refs, get techs, get called for flagrant fouls, get suspended but when Candace shows any type of emotion on the court they want to question her character. GTFO!

Anyways Congratulations CANDACE PARKER! WELL DESERVED!

I have yet to sit through an entire WNBA game for the last 10 years so who is the best or who has the worse attitude as a pro doesn't interest me. I thought we were talking about Parker and Taurasi as college players. Taurasi didn't draw technical fouls or play flagrantly in college and as far as using foul language I think that is rather common in college but I never heard either player cursing in college. Someone will have to show me some evidence that Taurasi was any worse than the next player. I always thought she was intense in a game but I never saw her lose her temper except maybe to Geno a few times on the bench. She always had a funny comment when faced with nastiness, like when she said said was hearing Moos instead of Boo's at TBA.

I'd double check the numbers between Sylvia and Candace from last season. Candace was top 10 in pts, rebounds and assists. Sylvia was top 10 rebounding and that's it.

As has been pointed out, I had my share of frustration over Candace's play last season, which was unwarranted in light of her personal situation. Given that the selections were before the meat of the WNBA season, she had a much more successful pro career than Sylvia at that point. Candace should have been on the team, period.

Oh here comes whiny Linkster who did nothing but go from forum to forum bashing Parker and trying to tarnish her name while whining and crying when anything bad is said about Geno. now he or she is back whining again and trying to Question Parker's character while making excuses for Taurasi.

UConn fans hating Catchings as a person would be as ridiculous Tennessee fans hating Maya Moore as a person. There's absolutely nothing to hate because they are both humble, salt-of-the-earth human beings

Candace and Diana had a lot of similarities. Both of them knew they were good and had no problems making sure others were aware of it. Not at all a crime, but apparently Candace's cockiness was a character deficiency yet Taurasi's was something to be applauded. Yeah, no.

So, in Besti's honor, perhaps we could take a vote on these two alternative explanations.

1. Candace did not make the 2016 Olympic because she is a selfish, me-first player.

2. Candace did not make the 2016 Olympic because Geno A. (use your imagination on what the A might also stand for) is a selfish coach who put his own ego ahead of the interest of the national team and fairness to one of the all-time great players and contributors to the women's national team.

To get things rolling, I cast my ballot for option 2.

That is clearly what happened, and anyone with a fully functioning brain won't argue against it.

I'm still chuckling at these idiots who actually believe that the Olympic coach doesn't have a MAJOR say-so in who makes the team.

Haters? Yes I think you are right. But I have a problem with people who hate people they never met along with those who worship people they never met. And I don't applaud cockiness. I admire players for what they do on the court. When I watched Catchings play I saw someone who gave 100% all the time. That, along with her talent are what made me admire her. I admired Taurasi because of her style of play. She was always aware where all 10 players were on the court, got the ball to the open player and did it with flair. Another UConn opponent who I admired was Diggins, despite her white bandana and her swagger on the court, which drove me crazy She was UConn's nemesis but I admired her unrelenting hustle.

I suppose if Parker had played in Ct I would have admired her individual scoring skills and ignored her defensive lapses or her walking down the court at times. There certainly were UConn players who took plays off. Abrasimova comes to mind. But my feelings would stop short of admiration.

You know, I would never dream of going to the boneyard to question Diana Taurasi's qualities as a player or her character. The lack of courtesy displayed by some Uconn fans is mind boggling. Be polite when in someone else's house, don't criticize mama's cooking, and sure as heck don't diss a LV legend. Seriously y'all learn some damn manners.
