Canales vs Wienke

Can we "sticky" a whine and vent page for Butch?

Sure would like some objective comparison between Weinke and Canales. Also thoughts on run vs pass ratio. CJP said he was a run to throw kinda coach.

These were two of the finalists for our QB job last year.

Wienke was an NFL Qb, a coach at of the best high school programs in the US, was an NFL Qb. He takes an analyst role with Alabama after we said no.

Canales is a journeyman assistant, mostly as Group of 5 schools. His last two stops before UT were N Texas and Utah St. And after “coaching” our 3 QBs last year, he lands at UTEP....the worst team in the country. But he got the UT job because Jones has known him for close to 20 years.

Pruitt is hiring an impressive staff. These guys won’t stay here long. But I’d be surprised if the players are not motivated and well coached.

Right!

I don't know why we don't stick to hiring only high school football coaches.

You guys are freaking silly

It comes down to money. Coach Pruitt negotiated enough money to surround himself with quality recruiters and teachers! Simple and Brilliant.

Build a juggernaut staff, recruit quality young men, coach em up and win it all.
THEN, start cashing in on 7 million a year.

You think Butch wants a do-over?

Agree with everything you posted.

To answer your last sentence, no, I don’t think Lyle wants a do-over at all. He tried his best, knew he was in way over his head and wanted out. Now he’s done, away from the scrutiny and stress and can count the $20mm+ he made from UT for his troubles.

Did it seem like everything that Butch Jones touched turned to something foul?

Be interesting to see which QB improves the most because we’ve seen Canales take a stab at it

Supposedly the administration handicuffed him with the money they would allow. We looked at LSUs OC but didn't have the money to pull hm. Idk if I agree or not but our current staff is light years better on paper than the "greatest staff in America" of Butch.

He was not handcuffed for money. Total staff pay was still top 15 in the nation which is more than adequate to field a competent staff. He just chose to hire his buddies

This is NOT even funny. This thread is bullying towards Mike Canales and the white surrender flag should be waved now.

Yeah this is the truth.

The whole, "butch was handcuffed by a bad administration" crap is ridiculous.

Butch hired losers who were bigger losers than him. Especially on the offensive side. If the loser (chairman of college olympic sport at michigan) did ok, he usually left, on strange terms, for another usually lower level or similar job. There was no upwards trajectory in azzani or debord. But they were his closest buddies too. It was strange, really. Azzani had been with Lyle since central michigan.

As soon as wide receivers were struggling and criticized, boom azzani was gone and a lesser than was hired to replace him. Im thinking the Lyle "deflect the blame" game got old fast with his buddies. They may not have appreciated his napoleon complex, tyrant behavior or utter lack of loyalty (lawson) from a guy who claimed to ge all about trust and loyalty.

He could not effectively replace his buddies, azzani to beard, and debord to scott were substantial downgrades. It got to where Butch was a totally broken coach, who had ran out of friends and was unable to find any real football people willing to work with him.

Beard canales and scott as oc were proof of that.

He handcuffed himself with himself.

Butch was bad at hiring coaches, but lost in the background of his stupidity is the ignorance of the admin and boosters to allow a generous enough pool to hire quality assistants. Don't get me wrong. I feel Butch still would have screwed up even with more money at his disposal. But we are notorious for going cheap on assistants. That has to change if we want to win.

Lyle went to the University of Currie and got a master's degree in interviewing and hiring coaches. The least qualified coach that is. He also had a masters degree in favoritism. Always sit the best players, and let the practice squad start game in and game out..

Weinke was hurt in their last regular season game. We played against Marcus Outzen in the Fiesta Bowl.

Wienke was hurt prior to the last regular season game. Rooster Outzen quarterbacked FSU vs Florida and beat the gators in their last regular season game.

Simple... Jones should have surrounded himself with a great staff which he didn’t and obvious basic coaching decisions in ballgames that he failed miserably.

Heisman winning National Championship winning NFL playing QB coach...or a guy who played at Utah State...

Same as that Kent State QB who is the head coach at Alabama. Oh wait....

Canales did a poor job coaching the QBs last year, but it had nothing to do with where he played.

Pruitt is actually getting paid less to have more money for assistant coaches
