Can you tell me what Phil is doing

It's the opposite of the old "ol' ballcoach"'s throwing his visor to the ground. Personally, I would rather see the latter display of emotion rather than the Fulmer Clap

The only time I saw Fulmer get upset is when he accidentally dropped his donut into Smokey's water dish.

I actually asked this question on another post last night. When I played football I never saw a coach clap for a bad play. As players we were held to the standards our coaches wanted to see on the field. They coached us with their brand of football and if you didn't follow it you knew a butt chewing or benching was imminent. I respected my coaches for this, and I worked hard to do it right. It is called discipline, something this team seems to lack.

Look at all the senseless penalties and turnovers we have had this season. Stephens looked like he was throwing a temper tantrum on the sidelines after the interception last night and not one coach went to talk to him to tell him he was making an ass of himself on national television. I would have benched him for the rest of the night. This team has no discipline, and if you think that clapping for every play, good or bad, is helpful to the team you are wrong.

And you know this how?

Because I know everything. :)

Have you ever coached anything??

Believe it or not, yes. :)

Angry correction in front of God and everybody will work for 1 in 10 players. The other 9 will tell you to f off (silently) or worse, shut down completely. A coach is a cheerleader in a manner of speaking.

If a coach acts like he's given up on the team, the team will give up.

And you know this how? Have you ever coached anything?

My dad and I have made fun of Phil for years for his incessant clapping

It's his go-to coaching move in every situation. The players obviously have no respect for him, no amount of hand pounding will inspire them

I think it's more of an emotional response to adversity from Phil more than his idea of how to help the players get over another mistake or bad play. The problem is it's the most coaching he does on a Saturday.

Standing around with headphones on that he never talks into, never talks to players besides instructing the special teams to get on the field and punt, or holding up one finger or two after a touchdown.

he's been the most inactive, passionless head coach I've ever seen

I said the same exact thing about Fulmer taking his head set off and sitting there clapping after EVERY single bad play that we had. I asked my co-worker with me, "why do you think he always claps at bad plays instead of getting serious with the players?"
