Uh, because he started losing. You think thats a normal problem? No, it isn't. And if you thought I was worried about credibility issues on an internet chat forum, you are a huge dork.
I think this argument, like many legal arguments, boils down to what a reasonable expectation should be. When you go to a sporting event, is it reasonable to beleive that the people in front of you should remain in their seats and remain quiet so you can watch the game in peace? To me it does not seem so.
If these games were not available on TV, I would say that there is a case for people to suggest that fans should be wary of being loud and emotional for their team. If you do not wish to partake in the environment, you can stay at home and watch the game however you chose. You could sit on your couch naked, if you wish. The whole point of watching a game in person, especially when there is an option to watch it on TV, is for the experience, the atmosphere.
As I have said before, one of UT's problems is that the fan base for some reason skews considerably older in comparison to LSU/UF (the louder more involved stadiums). This demographic effects the noise levels, the atmosphere and everything in between. There are certainly upsides to the demographic being older, the crowd (in general) is not obnoxious or hateful to opponents. We don't throw piss, spit or wear jorts.
I don't know how to solve the problem, but I can acknowledge that there is one. Everyone believes that there way of watching the game is correct. The only people who I totally disagree with are those sorts who wear headphones the whole game, stay seated with their binoculars and mean mug anyone who stands up in their way. They need to stay at home....without exception.
I do miss the energy of the student section, it used to feel like that place would crumble to the ground it was so loud. I was there for every home game between 97-02. I get misty eyed when I think about those days...

Yeah, it rarely happens and usually is not an issue. Just saying why I think we should stand, and why I do. I honestly just one time wanted to tell those a holes what I thought. Was a great feeling, I got a little cheer from one section as well.
But like i said before. I wouldn't go near that section again. My season tickets are in the standing only section.

That doesn't even make sense.
Ok, cool. Just checkin. You sound kinda paranoid, and use those pac man things as a defense mechanism.
I was a part of Neyland when it was all about the noise and teams dreaded coming here to play. We did not make it loud back in the day by standing, I am not opposed to standing I am however opposed to someone being totally disrespectful, for some of us, that was the way we were raised.
Been going to the games since the early 70's and I am just as loud now as I was back then. Being a young fan is kind of like when you fall for your first love, being an older fan is like remembering how it felt back then but then learning to appreciate that person in a much more deeper way for what it means in your life.
Isn't amazing how different people can experience the same thing and form different conclusions?
It could be as simple as where you sit vs where I sit. I don't know. I just go to a lot of games in Columbia, Athens and Tuscaloosa and it's just never struck me as a different sort of crowd in any of those places.
Not really, I was with my gf and she is a real good girl and keeps me under control. We were just standing and the people behind us, I mean everybody, asked us to sit down. It was the freakin first quarter!!!
I really was polite and said no, you stand up. Long story short, it escalated because they knew the ushers. Than they started asking to see my ticket stub as if I just snuck in or something. Once that happened, I layed into them pretty good. Still pisses me off.
If I had known it was a no standing section I wouldn't have bought the tickets. They were great
seats. But man, what stuck up, ****ty people that sit there.
Was the Oregon game for me, and we were in that game the whole first half and these people refused to stand. Unbelievable.
If you go to a football game, you should be aware that people stand. Especially in Neyland! If there's a little kid or something, I always switch seats with them so they can see. If you physically can't stand there are measures you can take.
Just not wanting to stand is your own problem. This is not a movie theater, or even a basketball game. You did not pay more for your ticket, so get over it, stand, or shut up.
While we're at it:
1). If you exit the row and make everybody maneuver to let you out to go get something to drink on 3rd and 5.... You're an idiot.
2). If you're walking up the steps and decide to just stand in the aisle to watch a play or two in front of some random person... You're an idiot.
3) if you're yelling or trying to start the wave while we're on offense.... You're an idiot.
4). Come to think of it, if you ever start the wave .... You're an idiot.
5) if you're the guy in my section that thinks he's an OC and likes to loudly second guess play calls after the fact .... You're an idiot.
6) if you boo when we run a draw on 3rd and 30 .... You're an idiot.
7) I can cuss with the best of them and I don't care if you do. But if you're within a few seats of old people or little kids and you insist it's your god given right to scream expletives .... You're an idiot.
