Can we please stop any playoff talks.

I listen to the guys on College Sports Radio on XM and they were having an interesting conversation about this. No 3 loss team has ever made the playoffs but this is a weird year. We are the second highest 3 loss team at #20. The first is Texas who still has to play A&M. We also still play #12 Vandy and would be handing them their 3rd loss with us winning the head to head. So now we are up to #18 (assuming Texas loses). If you look at the other 2 loss teams ahead of us a lot of them have big games left. Michigan still has Ohio State. Miami still has Pitt. USC still has Oregon. Georgia Tech still has Georgia. Plus, who knows what can happen in state rivalries. Bama could still lose the Iron Bowl. Virginia could lose the Commonwealth Clash, etc. I can keep going but there is a universe where Tennessee stumbles and bumbles it's way to #12. Of course, we have to win the next two games and win them convincingly which is a tall order but there is a way.

You remind me of my high school girlfriend the way you lead me on... 😂

Well, the point they are making regarding 3 loss teams is a bit overdramatic. Prior to last season, there were only four playoff spots, so of course no 3 loss team would get in. I don't think there was even a two loss team prior to last year. However, I do recall Heather Dinich reporting in the lead up to the playoffs last year that there had been several occurrences of 3 loss teams being ranked in the final top 12 CFP rankings in prior seasons.

Chance at a 10 win season is still a good season...we weren't making the playoffs this year but some had it in their head and are now pissing and moaning, 8-4 9-3 was what most who actually saw what we had in this team before the season predicted best case scenario and its still achievable, I'll never scoff at a double digit winning season
There’s a difference in predicting what will happen before the season begins and watching/living in real time while your team still has a chance to win a national title. As they say, “Hope springs eternal.”

Once the reality of being out of CFP contention hits, my interest wanes. I’ll still watch the final two games, but won’t live and die with every play. At least it’s better for my blood pressure.

I can relate, except it's FL and Vandy. I can't stand the thought of living through the entire off-season having been beat by either of those teams.

Reactions: VolCalls
I was looking at a mock playoff prediction and totally forgot they include the highest ranked non-power 5 team which at this point would be #24 Tulane. That means the Vols have to reach the top 11 in the next two weeks to be in which makes an already very improbable scenario that much more difficult.

I hate to throw in the hat but if we even finish top 15 seems like an achievement after what this team has endured this year . A lot of the teams ahead of us at this point that have two losses we aren’t necessarily gonna leap from them if we both only have three losses.
