Can We Get Back to Talking Football?

We can sell out to stop the run, and I know vandy qb isn't that great, but the bad part is any qb (even a high schools qb) can throw up a 50/50 deep ball and probably complete it since our corners seem to get burned or PI on every SINGLE deep ball thrown this year. Cam even got burned in a couple last week, just fortunate the WR dropped the ball or Lock overthrew it.

So I say keep playing 2 deep, give up the chunk runs, bend don't break, hold up in the red zone and we should be fine. Our offense will pick up the slack

Logical and I think this is what the staff is doing. It's painful to watch and may end up costing Vol fans a few TVs but it may be the best path to a W.

Plenty of other threads to bash or praise Butch. Any thoughts on what you would do as DC this week?

Well, Missouri's front four was able to generate pressure on Shurmur and force him into bad decisions. They also seemed to have had success in man coverage against Vanderbilt's receivers. This is based off little more than the game highlights, though. But, if it were up to me, I wouldn't blitz on passing downs too often and play press coverage. I'd also put Kongbo, Phillips, and Vereen out there with Barnett (On said passing downs) as my four down lineman. That idea might seem silly, but anything to generate some speed across the d-line in these situations could come in handy.

So, lots of cover 2 I guess. In not so obvious passing downs I'd utilize the 4-3 instead of the dime package. It might help to have an extra lb out there if they go heavy on the run

Thank you Rockytop and the rest that offered thoughts on the subject and avoided the noise on other threads.

Beat Vandy like a rented mule (sorry mule).

It is interesting to me that no one is scared of Vandy this year... They actually are a tough win with how solid their D is. That being said I say Tn wins 24-13

Scared is probably a little much. UT had better players, Vandy is getting more out of what they have. Vandy is well coached and plenty good enough to win the game.

I have a question... Would Tn fans be happier with a SECCG and losing to Bama and not make the Sugar Bowl or there current situation and a real shot a the Sugar Bowl?

Barnett.
Likely last game for him at Vandy
Last draft polls aren't doing him justice
UT wins it could be a future changer for the good of program.
Got screwed on award today
One sack away from tying Reggie

My guess is he puts his best we've seen on the field Sat. Happens to be on the ball side in most need too.
He will destroy Shurmur and anybody in the way

Book it

Valid question and not related to firing anyone. Cudos.

Personally, and I'm a bit ashamed to admit it, I think it's best for the program to have dodged Bama (as if they had a choice) and work on a victory in the Sugar Bowl.

Shoop is handicapped right now, with the loss three interior lineman.

Four interior linemen...don't forget Alexis Johnson...don't know how bad the hip pointer injury was or if there was something else going on but he was supposed to compete for the starting job...after losing O'Brien, Tuttle and Mackenzie and NOT seeing him in, I'm sure he's gonna redshirt. Just not sure if it's an injury or something else...he was "cleared" but UT is under deeper scrutiny so who Knows the real reason...

So you have 5 pretty good size guys at DT then suddenly in a two week stretch you only have 1...

I would agree... Plus you get some time to heal up a little and cross train Dlineman... Playing Bama and healing up don't go together very well
