is the year of our return to prominence? The majority of our talent on offense will be JRs. The JC guys on D will have a year in the system. Couch will be playing for his draft pick as will Brewer. Lathers will be a SR and the LB corp should be ready to rock. It will be the second year in the S&C coach's system.

We take the stage with the NC State game. Its a match up against a beatable team and a chance to show the nation we have arrived. We get UF and Bama at home.

the future's so bright, I gotta wear shades.

If Dooley doesn't get at least 10 wins, the future is very bleak imo jmo.
Agreed. Unless this year goes much better than expected, I'd probably want him gone at 8-4 in 2012. At that point, there would be little to no reason to expect things would be any better in the future.

We will be a major player in the SEC in 2012... I don't know about the reston here, but I agree.

We should know a LOT about Bray and company by the end of October this year. If they are starting to hit on all cylinders then watch out for us in 2012.

You gotta keep in mind that the other big programs are still pulling in better talent. It's not like they are stagnant or declining. The past few years will take a while to pull out of.

This needs to stop. You have arguably the best WR corps in the league. Your talent is fine and you are pulling in studs.

BUT, at the same time, it's not like Alabama, LSU, and UGA are going to stop recruiting high caliber athletes either.

The SEC recruits well, but only a handful have the ability to recruit well every year. Look at the records over the long term to prove the point. The Vols will not stay down long as they have proven for decades. The key is keeping a high quality coaching staff and staying hungry. The later is what Fulmer forgot or we would not have gone through the down period of recent. When you can consistently pull in top 15 recruiting classes you win at a high level consistently. There is not enough difference between #1 and #15 to really matter if you have a high quality, motivated coaching staff.

You routinely talk out of your ass in regards to our roster.

UT should be in the running for the SECCG and a BCS bowl in 2012. Dooley needs to win AT LEAST 9 games in 2012. Anything less would be a disappoint to me

dude, he's trying to compliment our team and I for one agree that by 2012 our level of experience and athleticism at the skill positions and in the trenches will be second to none! stop *****in'

As far as player tallent coach Dooley wont have any excuse to not field a contender in 2012.Then again we could have some coaching casualties. While I dont forsee any major coaching changes after this year,I doubt we will be able to keep em all.Its like coach Dooley said...if others schools aint after your staff, something is wrong.

With that being said...dont write off this year. Some have high expectations for this years squad.

Naw, he's just pre excuse making for when they loose to us in Gainesville.

We may be better than UF at a couple of spots but they're better and deeper in general at least on paper. We'll have to see how all of that talent will be deployed and actually play.

I understand your point, Bama will be Bama and UF will be UF, but I full expect UGA, LSU, Ole Miss, KY, and Ark to be worse. USClite is on the rise, as is MSU.

IDGF.

Our top 3 WR's coming back have a combined 51 catches. That's four less than Gerald Jones had by himself last year and he missed a quarter of the season.

Also, our front seven is still a long ways a way from being full of studs.

Nobody was questioning that we have a considerable amount of talent at the WR position. Unfortunately that's far from the only position on the field. The guy made a good point though. While we recruited comparable talent to UF this past season, Bama and UGA, two teams that we play on a yearly basis, wiped the floor with us on the recruiting trail this past year. Until we get to the point that we're recruiting better than, or at least nearly as well as, the best teams in the SEC, we won't be winning any championships. You simply don't win the SEC with inferior talent.

This kind of talk is asinine. An insanely talented and well-coached Alabama team lost 3 games last year. I'm excited about 2012 as well and think we have a chance to be a great team, but we still play in the toughest league in the land. Putting all our eggs in the 2012 basket is just dumb.

1. Don't expect other teams to make zero headway while we're returning to prominence.

2. This is the SEC where even a very good team can end up 8-4.

3. I see 2011 as the season we scare the living heck out of people and give notice we're on the way up.

4. 2012, I believe we'll have one heck of a team. If Bray meets expectations, we're going to see a lot of WRs wanting to come here. Might not sound so good to some people but quality JUCOs WRs will transfer to UT. Then there's Worley waiting in the wings that will continue the pull. I also believe if that OL is even just decent this season, the RBs we have will take advantage and this is going to pull quality backs here as well. Finally, if Wilcox has that defense performing even half as well as his old Boise State units, the pull of defensive talent here will be ridiculous. We'll be seeing the end of the Tide-Gator monopoly of the SECC. So once again 2011 is going to be our coming out party and 2012 is going to be a team others would rather not play.

Maybe. But didn't everyone say this class was going to be a top 5 class? I just don't see it. I hope 2012 is a 10 win kind of year. I really really hope.

That makes the success of Dooley's recruiting philosophy that much more important. Let's assume that you are right and other "big programs" still pull "better talent". I assume you are referring to recruiting rankings, right? If we assume that then two things need to work for Dooley.

One, when he recruits with his "eyes" and not his "ears"... he (and the staff) need to be right. When he says "I don't care what others say, I see talent" then he better hit at a higher rate than those coaches and recruiting svcs. If the rankings/ratings mean anything (and they do mean something) then other schools can afford guys who are overrated. They can afford to take a chance on an underrated guy. Dooley's batting avg has to be higher.

Two, he has to retain and develop the talent he gets. Since Waco is here, let's consider UF. They will probably keep getting 4* and 5* talent (though FSU and Miami seem poised to make it tougher again). But hasn't UF gotten that for some years now? What happens to all those guys? They fall out somehow. They can afford it and still have talent.... Dooley can't.

I don't have the testicular fortitude to make too many claims about 2012 until 2011 is at least underway, and we can see what we have.
