Can the Vols stop Kentucky's rushing attack

easiest way to negate their running game is for our offense to build a lead, taking it away.

defensively, i'm assuming we're going to give up yards and some plays. but if our offense can posses the ball, not turn it over and generate 1st downs and build a little bit of a lead, it will take that away. our defense doesn't have to be dominant. they just need to be able to get a few stops early....

if we start out with 3 and outs, penalties and give the ball away....that won't help our defense, and will play in to what KY will likely want to do offensively....

I guess we are going to have to if we want to have enough time of possession to also rush for over 300yds.

Kentucky primarily runs it up the middle for what I've seen this year, hopefully Kirkland and jumper are ready

this is the problem with our current DT situation...if they can get to the 2nd level and block....could be a long day. and which is why i think KY will get some yards, that will likely make a lot of us angrier than we want to be playing KY.

there are match up advantages for them against our defense right now.

the good news is i still don't trust KY's defense at all, and wiht Kelly, Kamara and Dobbs probably all getting carries, we could feast as well.

defensively, the good news is, we don't have to completely shut them down, we likely won't. but getting some timely stops....that will matter. there will be 3-4 times during this game where we'll need to get a stop....if we do, we should win fairly convincingly.

to me, this game simply comes down to whether or not we can break the trend of the slow starts, and being nice to our opponents with mistakes, penalties, and turnovers.

if we could get up 2 possessions in the 1st quarter, it could be a very long day for them. the best way to help our defense is to give them a lead, and make KY do things offensively they don't want to.

Will the Vols "Shark" defense stop Kentucky cold, we can wish all we want, but it's not very likely, is it?

No Tuttle, KMac or OBrien? No we will not stop UKs ground game. Even when we had those guys healthy, we were getting gashed. Barnett cannot do it all. It wouldnt surprise me if UK rushes for 300 on us.

500 if UT has a bunch of 3 and outs

To answer the question...no, we won't be able to stop their run game. Our hope is outscore them and that they have a couple of turnovers along the way that will allow us to build a big enough lead to hold them off.

Isn't outscoring the other team our goal every week?

Let's face it, the Vols are trying everything under the sun to shore up a Dline that has been decimated by injuries, even going so far as trying offensive linemen on the Dline.

Can the Vols slow down Kentucky's running game enough, however, is the better question?

No our D line is gone. Our only hope is to stop total huge Big long TD runs by them to keep their mojo down through out the game.

But this is our year??

So sad that we even have this thread. This should be a basketball thread, not football. Can y'all imagine us having a "Can we beat Kentucky?" discussion back in August? Nauseating.

This.

It's been in short supply this season for the Vols but " complimentary football" should actually work against the likes of KY.

There aren't anywhere near the injuries on offense as defense so that isn't a viable excuse for that side of the ball.

I full expect DeBord to come out sputtering and make a game of this though tomorrow. Then he can complain to the QB Club on Monday about KY having the nerve to show them something that wasn't on film like he did after SC.
