With early signing day upon us a quick glance at the team recruiting rankings has us either the #7 or #8 team in the SEC. Now with the addition of Oklahoma and Texas things just got even harder in recruiting.

Can UT flip some big names with some big $$$ to get us into the top 5? Or will UT be dependent on the transfer portal?

Crooty McCroot out of Sneedville is one to watch.

That's a great job pandering for likes. Meanwhile I was asking a serious question.
Some respected posters think we might make the top 10, but that is more related to blended recruiting ranking. That would require some movement, but nothing major. We will still fall short of what many want in the SEC rankings. Does that help?

I'm largely unconcerned. With what appears to be a top notch QB and many players coming back, I believe we'll be strong next year (which will just build more on recruiting). I also trust in Heupel's ability to evaluate talent and coach them up.

I hope we finish in the top 10 but I don't see it happening. We have missed on the big name DL that we had wanted. Although this year will be fine since the guys that chosen to come back but the 2025 year is looking shaky. But we are in the portal era and anything can happen. My prediction is we finish at 12 with one surprise signing but not of a 5 star. With that said, outside the DL I am really happy with this class !

Just win. People get all dramatic and emotionally vested in the messy things that happen to build a roster. Every draft there will be more guys that were rated 3* or lower drafted than 4/5*. That doesn't diminish the talent of those 4/5* guys. It just means there are a lot of guys out there who aren't rated high who have great talent... if the staff can find them.

There are people having some sort of break down over UT taking the Wallace kid. There are no guarantees in recruiting. None. 5* guys flop every year. Only about 20% of 4* guys end up being drafted. Sometimes guys are just injury prone when playing against college sized guys. So what do we KNOW about Wallace? He apparently started JUCO as a skill player at 190 lbs. He gained about 100 lbs since then and still looks athletic. Is he any more of a risk than some 4* kid out of HS? Probably not. Is he surefire? No. None are.

So as folks are having their meltdown about recruiting rankings just consider that the main goal is winning football games... not signing guys subjectively labeled "5*". Not being 1st or whatever in the SEC based on those subjective rankings.

Last point, UT's current player rating average on On3 is 90.78. A&M at 3rd is 91.59. That's within even what those recruiting sites would consider the margin of error. For reference's sake, UT is 10th nationally with that average. With MU at 25th... 13 of the top 25 programs based on average recruit ranking are from the SEC. UT is getting talent. UT is getting enough talent to win at a high level if they can resolve some particular positions like interior DL.

I don’t think anything crazy happens tomorrow, and that is okay. I like how the staff builds long term relationships and keeps the family aspect alive and well. I do not seeing anyone flipping away from Tennessee either though, you’re either in or out at this point. I like this coaching staff enough anyways to give us a shot in any game with comparable talent, not necessarily better talent. If Tennessee had better talent all over the field it would be scary with this same coaching staff.

I won't be disappointed if we don't have any good surprises, just as long as we don't have any bad surprises.

Yeah this is all good and well. My bigger concern is CJH isn't recruiting better than any of his predecessors. UT has been pretty easily able to land a 10 to 15 class ranking since Fulmer was fired. But in that same time the same few teams in the SEC out recruit us and the same few teams finish higher than us in the standings.

Anyway I know people know this stuff. I just wonder how excited Tennessee fans are compared to how excited Bama or Georgia or Texas or LSU or a few other fans bases are.

Hopefully this year was a fluke and we have a coach that can get us to the top quickly so we start landing top 4 recruiting classes every year and Bama and Georgia start to suck again.

People say this stuff doesn't matter but it clearly does.
