Can someone post an Alabama meltdown thread?

I've been listening to the Bama youtube podcast shows. Something refreshing - usually they blame something external, like the refs. Nobody doing that now. They are blaming the coach. And therein lies the problem. WE know what that's about. Dooley, Jones, Pruitt. They have been more than immune to that because of Saban and now.... here it comes. I think I heard $70,000,000 buyout (could be wrong). DeBoer could have a yacht race with Jimbo Fisher. Crazy that people get paid that much when they fail.

You’re correct. The buyout is close to $70 million
The Locked on Bama podcast isn't bad. Couple of homers there, but we got that too. One guy made a really valid point. You buy out a coach, the alumni get disgruntled and their wallets aren't open quite as much as they were when winning. In the "old days" it didn't matter, but now with NIL, those same fans are the ones buying the team. It can become a downward spiral, which is the nature of NIL era. There is an old saying "the rich get richer and the poor have babys" or something to that effect. Bama is one program that won't tank though, but this could be a brisk long walk in the wilderness for them. Did we leave breadcrumbs?
And, one game doesn't define a season, they could have a turnaround. They have lots of talent still. It'll be an interesting journey - The next big obstacle for them is UGA in Athens. That game should tell you something.

I believe Deboer is a decent coach and Pruitt and Jones are inept.
Deboer is decent but no one was going to follow Saban successfully. He did things no one else was doing. And it was tough to tell how good Deboer actually is due to the Penix factor. That dude could make a lot of college coaches look really good.

DeBoer don’t speak Bammer.

He’s a good recruiter. Need to cut the head off this snake this year and not let him get his players in.

Just not going to have another Saban there though.
Completely happy with CJH. However, Saban is a generational coach. Few places will have one of him and it’ll be a while before another even close shows up in the ranks. They just need to let Deboer complete the transition away from Saban. They are acting like post Bear all over agin and they weren’t to be feared before Saban showed up. If they thought there wasn’t gonna be a rough patch before he got going they’re more delusional than perceived. But I’d Atleast expect deboer to have a top level QB. That’s a surprise. I’d also have a come to Jesus with both lines and both line coaches. That was horrible.

Kind of surprised Bama went with Simpson as their best option at QB this year. I don’t think he’s going to survive this year

For a coach that had tier one QB’s at UW, I’m surprised that was best coming out of summer camp. That’s supposed to be his thing. It’s like they spent so much time refueling the other positions that one was an after thought. It wasn’t even that bad a last year. But he didn’t understand Milroe’s strengths either. He should have got more out of him.

He had Penix both years, a guy that had transferred from Indiana. Penix was a stud at IU too, he just struggled to stay healthy. I’m thinking the success at UW was 75% Penix and 25% coaching.

Probably could get him cheap. Except for the small matter of the show cause.
Michigan stole the natty and only got fined. Surely the “show cause” is just a briefcase with money in it, addressed to the NCAA.

I can see this downward spiral inevitable for many programs. NIL set off an arms race and only the loss of competition or government intervention can save athletics programs from themselves.

A good reason to be skeptical of the Neyland Entertainment project around the stadium is also this downward spiral you mentioned.

Additional revenue sounds good except the success of it is completely reliant on the success of the football team. If the football program struggles, we’re looking at another bunch of wig stores along the river.
