Can someone fill me in?

Np, Crompton didn't look as bad as his stats, but still threw some bad passes. There were alot more drops by recievers than bad passes, though. His INT was bobbled by his reciever, but was thrown behind him. He also fumbled the ball late in the game and nearly gave Ohio a chance to get back into it, but the Ohio player who recovered the ball was ruled outta bounds before the recovery, which saved us even more embarrassment with an even closer score, or loss.

They returned a kickoff for a T.D. and got a pick 6.

There was no pick six. You need to get the facts straight before you post.

We passed a lot in the first half which was to get Crompton some confidence. He did not play like an great but the WR had plenty of dropped balls. He stats are a bit skewed. The pass that got int. was tipped by G. Jones. It was not a great pass but after watching it again it was on both of them.

Ohio is not a cupcake like most thought. They always play well on the big stage. We need to improve no doubt. If we would have ran the ball more we could have controlled the game better.

and why we only won by a few. I had to work so I never got to see any highlights. Should I be worried about our Vols not winning by more. Thanks for the help.:hi:

Half the defensive line and linebackers were out (injuries) and UT has little depth there (Brown, Walker, Thompson, Reveiz).
The secondary played poorly and Ohio passed a lot. Rogan and Vinson will prbably get a look at CB now.
Hardesty carried the offense. Crompton completed about 50% of his passes.

I also would like to add that Kiffin did a great job with play calling today, and if you haven't seen the Play Action pass to Bryce, you need to youtube it. It was an amazing call. CLK opened his playbook up a little and you know he can turn things around with a better athlete in our QB position.

The secondary played poorly and Ohio passed a lot to take advantage of it. Will probably see different players starting at CB in the future, probably Rogan and Vinson.

funny how great the secondary has been so far those are key injuries though.

It wasn't a pick 6, but it did give Ohio a short field.

Here's the Cliff's Notes version: UT's secondary gave up a bunch of passing yard but was mostly bend-but-don't-break in typical Monte Kiffin fashion. We could have won the game in a pretty workmanlike fashion just by pounding the ball, but Kiffin spent a lot of time trying to get something positive going with the passing game. It wasn't pretty, but you never got the feeling that there was any serious possibility that we might lose the game. The only really uncomfortable moment was a boneheaded Crompton fumble that was returned by Ohio for a TD, except that the guy who picked the ball up had a foot out of bounds, so UT got the ball back.

An ugly and uninspiring game in front of an uninspired crowed in ugly and uninspiring weather. I think anybody who's watched any college football at all knew that our team was going to come out flat for a dull opponent after that emotional effort in Gainesville last week, and that's exactly what happened. Naturally half the posters on this board think that the sky is falling.

Perfect call against the blitz. He could have walked into the endzone.

Supposedly those players will be back against Auburn (except Reveiz).

No pass rush was part of the problem.
Part of it was the cornerbacks playing too far off the wide receivers.
I think we will see some personnel changers at cornerback. :twocents:.

The thing that drove me nuts all game was when Tennessee would get a rush on the passer he would let go of the ball about .3 of a second before the defender got to him and about 90 percent of the time it was for a completion.

Agree with that.

Hard to get juiced up after the swamp game... emotional letdown, etc. Guys probably thought they'd get a breather, pile up some points and go on to the War Eagle.

Oddly images how the Gators must have felt a week ago.
