Can our defense stop Pitt more than they stop us?

To ease Vol minds, here is how it goes. Kickoff with Vols receiving, Holiday does a 52 yards run back. First play, McCoy and Tillman are sent to the mid right section behind the goal line. Panther CBs get confused on which one to double-team. McCoy catches a TD as a result. Subsequent passing attacks, the rest of the game, causes the Panther DL to play aggressively to get to Hooker. Who feeds the RBs who run wild time and again. I know this because my cracked crystal ball told me so.

IF
We win or even on turnovers &
We do not get penalties on 1st downs putting us behind the sticks.
If we keep total penalty yards less than 50 yards.
WeWIN
We are a better team but Pitt is good and a few variables like these could swing it their way just like last year.

Absolutely…sincerely, your friendly neighborhood “NegaVol”. Whatever that is.

Didn't you hear? We were unable to register any sacks against Ball state and gave up 10 points to them. We obviously can't stop Pitt's offense and have no chance at being able to outscore them.

It's not a matter of can Pitt's D stop us - it comes down to can we keep our O from stopping us.
If we have more than one or two 3 and out series on offense, we don't win this game.

We can't afford those series like we had several times last year where the Defense is on the field for several minutes, then the Offense takes over, shoots a three and out in about a minute or minute and a half of game clock, then the Defense is back out for another 5 to 6 minute drive.

Tennessee knows Pitt
Pitt knows Tennessee
It’s a matter of who can execute at a high level.
They’re going to try and out physical Tennessee and wear them down
Tennessee needs to make Pitt cover sideline to sideline and use its speed to advantage.
If Hooker has time there shouldn’t be any reason why the Vols don’t win handily.
Neutralizing the front 4 is key but with experience up front it should help tremendously.
Can Tennessee find more of a running game outside of Hooker?
Can Tennessee get sacks from the front 4 rather than just pressure plays?
I’m not sold on Pitt being able to cover Tennessees WRs.
Tennessee needs to create more opportunities for Sampson. The man is a weapon and only makes the offense more explosive.
I think Tennessee comes into the game with something to prove and wins 38-14.
This is the 1st half score.

Our defense is deeper than last year and their offense isn’t as potent. I think barring some turnover or big time mistake we win this game. Despite all the complaints about no sacks, I think this Dline is good. Really think Slovis is going to have a lot thrown his way this weekend. I think eventually Young or the freshman gets back there and sack him.

They can't stop our schemes, the only question is can we run the ball some and hit those wide open receivers. We can stop their run and have the players to rush the passer, can they do it? That is the question. They are going to mask their defense but sell out to stop the run. We need to make them pay early or it might be a long day. To answer the question, our defense has a batter chance of stopping their offense than theirs stopping ours. I think its not going to be close.

We’ll find out tomorrow in this coin flip most likely to be a thrilling game that most likely will have a high amount of points meaning more than 61 points combined.

We need to posses the ball to keep our Defense fresh. 5 plays and a score in 75 seconds will wear our defense down over the game. We need to keep their defense on the field as much as possible so they are tired in the 4th quarter. I think both offenses will score a lot so the 4th quarter (where we lost so many games last year) will be crucial.
That will never happen with this offense. Have you not been watching them play.

It will be on the offense to execute and pile on the points to win tomorrow.

I think the defense will get shoved around some and Slovis showed to be a tough competitor last week.

The strangest way ever of asking “will we win”. The answer is “if we knew that, we’d all be betting our life savings”. But I think it’s likely so I put $100 on us covering

If we don't score first we will more than likely lose tomorrow as pressure for new wrs to catch the ball will be extreme. They are unproven. Can they catch and get open fast enough?
Not least bit worried about this, whether we score first or not. Worried about if we can get off the field on 3rd down. If we can do that consistently, we win....IMO.

Some research is needed here to answer correctly. Has Slovis ever been a back up QB or 4th string WR at a SEC school? If so, we are toast. If not, we're golden.
