Mods, merge if necessary.

What a great story on him. Hope he balls out here.

"Tennessee was among the first schools to offer McDaniel, so when the Vols remained interested throughout McDaniel’s lengthy process, it meant a lot to McDaniel and his family.

“Tennessee was always at the top of his list,” Simmons told SEC Country.

“The whole process was heavy. It was stressful. However, I do feel, and I know Mykelle feels, he’s where he should be and things have a way of working themselves out. … The process can cause you to lose hope, but I’m grateful Mykelle never did.”

McDaniel gives the Vols another versatile body on the defensive line, and Watson believes the prospect is among the more underrated recruits in the 2016 class.

McDaniel recorded 10.5 sacks and 89 tackles for the Rams last fall, playing multiple positions up front.

“If you watch the film he was the best defensive lineman in the state of Georgia,” Watson said.

“Hands down, especially because he was so versatile.”

McDaniel developed into a heralded recruit under Grayson defensive line coach Mike Inman, who played at Alabama in the late 1970s. McDaniel learned how to study film, improve his technique and build on his natural gifts of speed and power.

“His tenacity is second to none,” Watson said."

Nice article on the late signee. I wonder if he can give us some reps this year? If he can play, I'm sure Butch/Strip would like to get him a little game experience and not RS.

On an important side not.. I believe I've found D4H in real life. His real name is Kenyatta Watson, and he's the recruiting coordinator at Grayson High. Read article and it will be abundantly clear. :good!:
No offense for outing you D4H.

Doubt it, we are deep at end to begin with and have Taylor and Butcher as R/S Freshman if needed

I wish he was 6'4" 290 and could play inside but definitely a good get for depth and should get his shot in a year maybe two for sure.

Agreed. I just posted on the other thread I wish he was fifty pounds heavier haha. We should be strong all around on dl regardless tho

McDaniel is destined for a redshirt year. UT is deep at DE and freshmen rarely make a positive impact--unless they're preternaturally talented, athletic freaks--on the DL in the SEC and, even if he were an early enrollee or summer enrollee, he probably would not have played at all this year. The combination of the eligibility issue and the late enrollment (because of the eligibility issue) pretty much put the nail in the coffin on whether he was going to make an impact this year. But, I think the staff working him in speaks volumes to how good the staff believes him to be. In other words, Butch and Co. have, once again, demonstrated that they are as opportunistic as it gets and they must believe that McDaniel is a future star because they would not have gone to the efforts to get him at UT if they did not think that was his long term projection. All in all, great pickup for the Vols but we will have to wait two or three years, in all likelihood, before this pays dividends.

Rivals and ESPN both have him listed at 6'4'' and 255 lbs. while Scout has him at 6'4'' and 261 lbs . Still wish he were closer to 290 for DT inside help .

The pics of him on campus around the time he signed didn't look like he was anywhere close to 260. It was posted shortly after in another thread he weighed in at 197. I'm not saying that's accurate, but someone posted it. In the pics he looked closer to 200 than 250 for sure.

Since a redshirt sophmore can enter the NFL draft, I believe coaches will play anybody they believe that can be an influence. This is a general statement and I have no idea if McDaniel is physically ready to go. However the days of redshirting a Carl Pickens or a John Henderson are over.

No. Talented kid, needs a redshirt year badly to gain strength and add on significant weight.

He's played both DT and DE in high school and he's been well coached the right ways to play both positions.

He has a quick get off the snap, can bull rush and has the quick moves to get around O linemen fast.

Add more muscle and weight and he could become a tweener for both positions for us in special D packages.

Great addition by buTch and staff for us.

John Henderson was academically ineligible his freshman year...not the traditional "choose to redshirt" that happens today. JH would have gone to junior college or prep school if he was graduating in 2017.
