I"m 23 years old. My first game was in Orlando when we played and beat Northwestern in a bowl game. Peyton Manning was considering going pro. Towards the end of the game, me and my dad started chanting "one more year!" Everyone around us started cheering, "one more year." As you are aware, he stayed one more year. No, I don't think me and my dad was the reason he stayed another season, maybe he wanted to graduate. Maybe he couldn't imagine not playing for UT for another year. Maybe his family convinced him for several reasons to stay because of draft stock. I don't know.
But, I will always remember feeling like I was the reason Peyton Manning stayed for another year. We are at a period where fans are divided, frustrated, and confused. And the same could be said for the football players. A lot of the fan base put trust and confidence in a head coach that left us thirsty and desperate. Heartbroken, even.
Along comes Dooley, not a lot of us know about him. His recruiting abilities. His coaching, the assistants he brings along. Some say, terrible, some say, great. PLayers feel betrayed, recruits feel confused. Some of the elite recruits aren't considering us anymore. The University of Tennessee just doesn't look the same as it did when I was child, screaming at Peyton to play another year.
A true freshman will probably play QB. We lost the #1 RB recruit in the nation. Eric Berry is a profesional football player. UT seems to be in a terrible situation. I ask you, the fan, to rise above the negative predictions and the feelings of disappoitment. If there is anything I've learned in the last 9 months, is that anything is possible.
Vols, we have to stick together, we must support our coaches and players. We have to support each other! We are the University of Tennessee! And we will not quit, we will be on top of the nation again, and no Bammer, Gator, or Bulldog will stand in our way!! Go Vols!
