Can EB win a hesiman?/vote for Berry (merged)

This has been said before, but EB has to return punts to be a Heisman contender. We know that will never happen, so I'm satisfied with All American.

He will be an All American but unless we win the NT he is not going to have a chance. Still the best DB in college right now as a true sophomore.

2 previous Tennessee players have already been screwed out of the Heistman trophy.

Tennessee is a bad team and not that ESPN already has a bias against them, but in today's game with highlight reels running all the time on cable channels, there will be much less for Tennessee if they are not on national TV as much.

Woodson was just someone they dug up out of no where to undermine Peyton. Comparing Berry to Woodson is of no avail because Woodson was on a undefeated NC team from the Big 10 and propped up by ESPN to upset Peyton.

There are too many high powered offenses out there for Berry to even get on the honorable mention this year.

The heisman is all about stats.

If we threw all the players in the SEC in group and starting picking sides, I would start with Berry.

If EB runs the G-Gun(not gonna happen) against Bama, scores 3 times out of it(not gonna happen), and the game ends on a EB interception( not gonna happen because that would mean that we are winning).

it's possible, but they really dont look at defensive guys for it anymore unless you have an outrageous number of picks and/or sacks. Also, woodson got td returns on special teams too which they used to further his case - something berry doesnt do at this point

Its more about who he returned the punt for a TD against than any other stat. It was against OSU and on national tv, he basicly won the Hi-Scam trophy on that play alone.

I voted so many times I lost count. It must have been 30-40 times, and his name still doesn't show up!

Its amazing that Woodson won the Heisman 11 years ago and some people still consider it a personal attack.

The Heisman is nothing but marketing. TN has never marketed its players well enough to win. Phillip and even Hamilton would do a great service to both the program and to his players if they would make a concerted monetary and marketing push for a Heisman for EB.

Case in point: Travis Stephens. He had great stats (not drastically far off of Reggie Bush's #s), showed up in not one but TWO of the biggest games of the year a la Woodson (GA 62 yard screen for TD to win the game if not for Chavis' prevent; 226 yards rushing vs. FL including "The Run"), and the rest of the field was pretty weak that year. He never got ANY pub for the Heisman, and that is completely attributable to the administration and coaches.

Of course there is Peyton, Shuler, and even Majors as well. A Heisman is a huge selling point in recruiting, and deserves some of those massive recruiting $$s we spend.

sorry, that t also should have been a y but i didnt check back over...but berry doesnt have a yard gaining stat that analysts will hype. I just dont think you can win a heisman on defense nowadays unless you have an insane number of ints or sacks though
