Can Dobbs make it as a wideout in NFL?

Cam Meredith - Bears
Terrelle Pryor - Browns
Braxton Miller - Texans
Julian Edelman - Pats

All recent college QB's converted to NFL WR's. Height and weight he is really similar to Meredith. Dobbs has caught some TD's, but I don't know if that sample size is enough to show his true catching ability. We know he is dangerous with the ball in his hands though. I think with his IQ he could be a great route runner.

The thread title implies that he can't as an QB. Lol going to be some surprised people come draft time. His intellect and character besides his QB talent will make it easy for any NFL team to take a chance with him.

Where Dobbs needs to land is on a team with an oline like the Cowboys, like how Dak did. Unfortunately there isn't another team out there that has an oline like the Cowboys.

A lot of people don't factor in that a lot of Dobbs' throws were rushed because of terrible oline play. I'd like to see Dobbs behind an oline that wasn't as terrible as ours.

Ideal places for Dobbs to land...

Browns (I know the Browns lol) but seriously they have one of the better pass blocking lines in the league. They were ranked 3rd this year. They have one of the best Tackles in the league Joe Thomas. The Browns are also in need of a QB.

Green Bay (I hate them with a passion) but they ranked 5th in pass blocking. ARod (thankfully) doesn't have many years left, so Dobbs could go learn under him for several years and then take over the starting position. If I remember correctly ARod did the same thing under Farve.

Bengals ranked 8th in pass blocking. Dalton hs been really unimpressive throughout his career. The Bengals need a new QB. Having a target to throw to like AJ Green wouldn't be bad either.

Steelers Big Ben is getting old. Ranked 7th in pass blocking. I'd love to see Dobbs land here. A 3 headed monster on offense would be deadly. Antonio Brown, Le'Veon Bell, and Dobbs :eek:hmy:.

Texans Need a QB in the worse way. Ranked 10th in pass blocking. Coach Bill OBrien was the QB coach/OC for Coach Belichick and would be a good coach for Dobbs.

How good are his hands and how good are his routes? Those will be the biggest factors. Everything else we know about him suggests he can play WR

From what I've seen he's excellent. Every time he's been targeted he's made the catch and ran all the way for TDs. Not bad IMHO. :good!:

Is there any film anywhere showing he has the hands?

I'm late to the party concerning this thread I know. But, are there real NFL scouts / analysts talking about Dobbs to WR? Or is this just being created for the sake of VN discussion, Hurd->TE style?

Dobbs is going to run a 4.6 at best at the combine. That won't cut it for a guy who has never played WR.

These kind of project position switches usually occur with players who have a unique athletic trait (an incredible 40 time, an off the charts vertical, elite quickness, etc). Dobbs has above averagespeed, quickness, and athleticism for a 6-4, 225 QB, but only average athleticism for an NFL WR.

I just don't see that position switch working for him in a league vs. the best football players in the world when he's never played the position.

I'll add the NY Giants to your list. Eli is getting up in age (35 I think), they have a good young line, elite group of WRs, and a couple decent young TEs in Will Tye, Larry Donnell, and Jerrell Adams. Paul Perkins has improved as a rookie RB. HC Ben McAdoo is a fantastic QB coach as well.

It's one of the limited number of worthy observations made by D4H but waiting 'til after the Senior Bowl and combine to plot where Dobbs (or a great many people) may end up is a good idea.

He will go to the NFL for five to seven years and then retire. He will then have the money to open Astro-Dobbs, Inc., an aero-space consulting firm.

:no::no::no::no:and:no::no::no:He is not a NFL PLAYER a decent college QB not great but decent, he needs to take his IQ and have a good life.

The NFL is full of QB's that were decent college QB's that have no reason in the NFL...Could be a backup, hold a clipboard and collect a check for 4-5 years like all the rest!

Matt Simms is one of the worst QB's I have ever seen, if he can be an NFL QB (third string), Dobbs is a lock!

We all know. Hes smart. Hes a good guy. He can really run with the ball in his hands. He cannot throw the ball accurately, consistently. Why do you think the game plan against Tennessee has been stack the box and make Dobbs throw for the past 4 years. Yeah he can make a few plays here and there against some weaker teams, but he just isnt capable against good teams. He also comes off his reads way too quickly and makes some really questionable decisions. The 4th down play against Vandy. Kamara was the check down there. Dobbs never even looked anywhere else. But most people in here said it was a bad play call and blamed CBJ. It was a bad read.

OK, I'll play....

1. Because UT will run it down your throat all day long if you don't put an extra man in the box unless you've got an Alabama front 4?

2. Because UT's OL is so porous that you have a great chance to create a negative yardage play by bringing pressure?

3. Because of #2, Dobbs is typically running for his life and doesn't have time to set his feet for his passes?

4. Because the WR group has been far from impressive in 2013-2015?

5. Because Dobbs doesn't always locate the open receiver and sometimes has accuracy problems.

What do I win?

No... don't think he is quick enough and could run routes like a veteran WR. But good luck to him on whatever he decides to do.

Go Vols!

If Mark "Butt Fumble" Sanchez can still collect paychecks in the NFL, so can Dobbs. Same goes with RG3 and a long list of other terrible QB's.

I do not understand why people think Dobbs could make it in the NFL. His best chance is as a QB, that even then, WHAT A STRETCH. Dobbs at WR? Have you guys seen him run? He runs like a 4.6, and it is far from smooth. I just don't understand.

With that being said, thank you Josh for a great 4 years. I'm not a hater. Just a realist about him against an NFL defense..as a WR..lolz

Yeah, but Sanchez now works for the team that hired Dooley.. So there's that...
