Here's a thought. If Jon can come back next year and be a servicable quarterback then the selection of Lane Kiffin has been a huge success......................While I have been highly critical of Crompton at times this year, I ended up having to stick up for the guy tonight because some were being way too harsh towards him.
He was terrible, for the most part, this year, but I thought back to 2005, and you know what? He wasn't as bad as Ainge was that year.
It also looked like the defender gave up. Moore did a good job, Crompton got lucky. That was 63 of his 103 yds.I haven't read everyone's post on this thread, but I'm ready for T. Boyd!! That 63 yd. pass to Moore was great, but off his back foot and really looked like a prayer of a pass from Crompton. I bet against FL that pass would have been broken up or picked. Just a thought!

Granted, Crompton has been in the program longer than Ainge in 2005, but if you look at the numbers, Ainge was worse (or just as bad) that year than Crompton was this year, both of which were their first full year as starting quarterback.
And if anyone thinks otherwise, I dare you to go back and watch the tapes of the LSU game from 2005 and still say that Ainge was that much better.
With a new offensive coordinator (and possibly a few growth supplements), Ainge was able to turn things around his last years.
Who knows? Maybe Crompton can turn it around next year. It would actually be the most beneficial situation for the team. It would mean that we wouldn't be forced to put too much pressure on T. Boyd until he is ready to take over the reins, similar to what Cutcliffe did with Eli and Romero Miller.
Granted, sometimes you wonder if Crompton is all there in the upstairs department, but it would be beneficial were he to step up and be a leader.
You have to remember that 2005 was Ainge's Sophomore season. He had already proved that he could be a successful QB at UT in the 2004 season when he had an outstanding season for a Freshman until he his season was cut short due to an injury. Then he came out in 2005 and yes he had a horrible year but everyone knew what he was capable of because of the way he performed the year before and went on to have 2 pretty good junior and senior seasons.
Crompton on the other hand never really played in more than 2 games before this season and yes you can say he played well in the LSU game that he came into in 2006 because of an injury to Ainge but if you remember correctly he did not do too well in the game he started that same year at Arkansas. Then he gets the chance this season to be the starter full time and just totally SUKED thats the only word I can describe his play this season. He is still an unproven QB that has yet to play well consistently on a regular basis and im starting to think he never will.
So if I was Lane Kiffin after the QB play this season I would give Tajh Boyd the first look. Crompton, Stephens, and Coleman all got chances to show that they could get the job done and none of them did. Boyd will hopefully be the answer to our QB problems next year because it certainly won't be Crompton!
It would take a QB coach with abilities the likes of bagger vance to polish the rust, bad habits, and just plain stubborn hard-headed lazy footwork and mechanics away.
