Can CPF withstand the outcry at this point?

on a serious note, the recruiting i still don't worry about too much in that regard. we still have enough credibility with who we can point to in the NFL to attract a fair amount of talent.

and again, seriously, i think we will be set at WR in the not too distant future with this new crop.

same at RB.

matter of fact, i'd say our skill position people are going to be pretty good some day, DB's should be better some day.

if we can shore up the front 7, the O line and one of the three qb's we have on roster right now come to life, the future doesn't look quite so bleak from a personnel standpoint.

oh my.:eek:hmy:

I am particularly interested in hearing from those on or around the campus as to whether the support for a change is so overwhelming that it is impossible to ignore. I have a hard time seeing a change get made in mid-season, but on the other hand it does seem that the concensus is building and another bad loss will just be too much for the university to bear and keep its collective head down, plugging forward.

What are the odds that some action will be taken before the season is over?

0% that something happens before season end.

0% that something happens before season end.

How about something like Fulmer announcing that he is ready for the life after working, and announces following a nice win (Heaven forbid) That this will be his final season coaching the Volunteers, rides off into the sunset without the black mark of being physically shown the door if the current trend continues?

If Fulmer stays on, I can only imagine that one of his big recruiting lines is gonna be something like:

"Well, we've been trying to build/compete but we're still missing that extra *spark* to bring it all together and compete for an SEC Championship.. We need somebody to help us get back to where we were for the 98/99 Championship run.. and that's YOU..."

Right now, Tennessee is still big enough of a program where that argument might still work...

But as we go along, we're looking more and more like the LSU and Georgia of the 1990s... and pretty soon, that type of recruiting message won't cut it anymore.
The only thing that'll get us back on track WILL be a coaching change.... since Richt came in, Georgia is much more of a 'worry' opponent (despite problems this year), and we already know how LSU changed since Saban got in there and turned it around (word is still out on Miles since he's still using Saban's players).
Carolina really isn't the 'gimme' game it used to be either...

In fact, NONE of the traditional 'gimme' games are that way anymore. I remember being able to look at the schedule and circle only Florida and Bama on the calendar.

Arkansas, LSU, Ole Miss, State, Carolina, Vandy, Kentucky... all of them were GIMME games for a time.
Auburn was the only quirky one with several tie ball games.. (I remember a t-shirt I got in 90 or 91 that read, "One more tie and we'll ---- on Pat Dye"...)

Bama and Florida. That was it. And in the early 90s when I was there, we never beat Bama (can't remember 1993 because I was studying abroad) and can only remember beating Florida once or twice (I was at the 45-3 game) in that same timeframe.

Boy, times sure have changed.

Sorry for rambling..

we tied Bama in Birmingham....i was there. 18-18, on David Palmer run for the two point conversion to tie it up. what a game.

there is no reason for phil not go asap. johnny majors didn't finish his last year. i'll bet he laughing now.
as for the season i see a 5-7 season at best if no changes are made. spurrier will beat us again and so will Ky. who knows even Vandy may beat us. i don't understand when we get so called top players and still can't beat Fla. who supposedly had young players. we haven't been able to run the ball for years. in the past 2 Fla. games we have a +26. that is pityful. it is embarrassing time in Tennessee. what is it going to take for the AD to decide to make a change. if i was donating a large amount each year, i would want a change made. when we do get to a bowl game we lose and 2 times recently we were blown out by Maryland and Clemson. Fla. has won 2 national championship games since we one our last one. we have lost ground during that time (15-12 ) in the past 2 seasons plus.

Thank you for writing this.
I've been wanting to say that for a couple days now but couldn't get the words to form just right.

A loss to Georgia, IMO, makes a win over Miss State that much more difficult... and then a loss to Bama makes a win over Carolina that much more difficult... and a loss to Carolina (even after a win at UGA or Bama) makes a win over Arkansas damn near impossible (IMO)... and a loss to Arkansas makes it a little more difficult to beat Vandy.

By the time we get to Kentucky, I think we're gonna be whipped... emotionally, at the very least... and we'll lose that one.

This is a tough, tough season from my point of view...

The fact that we play what SHOULD be a relative patsy and then have an off date helps Fulmer out a lot. College football is a weird game; I wouldn't be shocked to see the team get things somewhat turned around against Arkansas State, take a week off, and then defeat what looks like a beatable Georgia team. If that happened, it's entirely possible we could turn it around and emerge with a relatively decent-looking record by the end of the year.

That would NOT, however, erase what we learned Saturday, which that we're highly unlikely to win the division again as long as Meyer's in Gainesville and Fulmer & Co. are in Knoxville.

Joey, I knew someone would change my post. Though about spelling it "taze" but I wanted to see which of you would be the 12 year-old to change it. Good job! :good!:

It was there for the taking, just doing my part to try to keep the humor factor up on the board in this time of depression and saddness, surely you won't begrudge me for that LG.

If you want to see the heat turned up, lose to BAMA, the traditionalist rival of the old guard...read, boosters.

Liper i think u just hit the nail on the head, old heads always look at the Bammer game as the big game. I just don't see Fulmer gettin the boot i can see presure of him retiring though, i hope it is this year. L.G. u guys are a very young team this is just the beginning of a very long losing streak to Florida at least while Teblow is there and CPF is at the helm, while the running up the score was very embarrasing it was very well deserved of maybe it will help with the push of CPF out the door.
