Can College Football Players Get a Hit Against a Softball Pitcher?

Maybe 8U pitcher. These guys aren’t touching Power 5 pitchers.
If that’s the case, every game should be a no hitter. If other girls can hit these pitchers, then I think the guys can as well. Think your enthusiasm is getting a little carried away.

Different skills. Have you ever tried to hit 70 mph+ from 37 feet once it’s released? You think a football player with those mechanics can hit what is the equivalent of 100 mph in baseball? Like I said, maybe 8U.

No need to mention spins or variances of speeds. Those pitches were flat down the middle.

If a football guy has played 4 years of HS baseball, he will be able to hit college softball pitching. He will be competent enough to put the ball in play at least as much as he strikes out.

If he's never played baseball: no chance, not making contact except by blind luck.

Albert says otherwise against Finch. Not many HS players who have played 4 years can hit what is deemed 100-105 MPH. Ben Joyce is the equivalent and D1/MLB players struggle. Not sure many here understand the science/numbers behind the velocity. Pickens isn’t getting hit by a college a football player with 4 years of HS baseball.

He shouldn't have swung at the last 2 for sure. Can't really tell where the first one was thrown with the chit camera work, but it was likely out of the zone as well.

Rise ball isn’t anything they’ve seen before. Down the middle when your mind is made up and two feet higher when you swing.

The HS hitter is going to have two hurdles to overcome: picking up the spin and identifying the release point. People who don't understand hitting think only about speed/reaction time. It's the same flawed argument that they make with the Little League World Series MPH equivalent. Reaction time matters but it's only 1/3 of the equation (as opposed to speed tracking and predicting movement) and IMO reaction time is the least important part of it.

Admittedly, you touch on the movement of the rise ball which is a very valid point. Baseball hitters haven't seen anything like it. But give Albert 10 ABs to adjust and he will be striking out some, but he'll also be putting balls in play. I've seen Sean Casey make solid contact against her in a different video.

I think a good HS hitter is going to have a decent chance of contact vs the average Power 5 pitcher.

Is this a standard off season SoftVol thread?

My personal expectation is that without baseball experience, zero linemen could hit a rise ball.

It would be similar to expecting a softball player to field a punt or catch a game speed pass.

……off season drivel.

If athletic football players that played HS Baseball where allowed to practice at Fastpitch Softball speeds, sure they would hit it and a lot of homers. This is a bit crazy, its like saying a team could be able to field a bunch of guys but they would not win in Girls Softball because they would all strike out. Ridiculous take IMO.
Now if you pick 300 pound linemen that have not picked up a bat since Little League different story. Its fun to watch guys get embarrassed I think is that's the narrative. I remember Johnny Carson getting struck out by USA teams Pitcher on the Late Show years ago and he said after, first time he picked up Bat since little league.
