Schuman would be a horrible choice for recruiting and especially DC. Let's hope it's not him.

UAB D in 2009:

Scoring - 102 out of 120
Passing - 120 out of 120
Rushing - 59 out of 120
Yards - 114 out of 120

Check out Sunseri' bio on the Al. page
Pretty impressive.

Player Bio: Sal Sunseri - ALABAMA OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE

"Sunseri began his career at the University of Pittsburgh in 1978 as a walk-on and ended it as a team captain and consensus All-American as a senior in 1981. A three-year starter at linebacker, he helped the Panthers to a combined record of 33-3 and anchored a defensive unit that led the NCAA in total defense in 1980 and 1981."

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Sunseri is a great coach. Just don't take your kids to watch practice. He's got an extremely "colorful" way of expressing himself!

I am not a Scout subscriber either so I do not have the inside info you are looking for. We do know that Joe Barry, LB coach of the Buccaneers is being considered. This would in my opinion be a terrible hire. His only stint as a DC was catastrophic (2008 Detroit Lions).

I like the idea still of Tommy Spangler. He was considered initially but was interviewing for the Tech HC job. Sonny Dykes was hired instead. The LA Tech board shows that the fan base down there loves this guy and really wants him to stay. Here are a few Spangler quotes from the Tech board:

"You gotta gear that s*** up, you gotta be like, VROOM, VROOM, VROOM!"

"Hey Anderson, I hear you broke your scapula? Anderson you know what happened to me in college? I broke both my scapulas! I learned how to tackle with no f***ing ams."

"You guys just can't get the signs right . . . so you know what I'm gonna do! I'm gonna start bringing props out on the field with me! For smoke blitz I'm gonna stand on the sideline with a big fat stogie in my mouth puffing away! For storm blitz I'm gonna bring an umbrella out there and just hold it over my head! Then for dog blitz I'm gonna bring a dog on a leash and just throw his a** out on the field! Then ya'll might get the signs right!"

"Work your balls off, you shouldn't have any balls after this, because you worked them off!"

This guy has the fire and in my humble opinion should be considered as a legitimate candidate for DC. Here is a link to the board where I got the info:

Coach Spangler, please stick around! - 'Bulldog Barks & Bytes'

Ahahahahahahahahaha!!!

Other good ones:

"(Coach Spangler): Anderson why are you late for the meeting. (Anderson): Coach I had to go to that meeting for the seniors about the NFL and agents. (Coach Spangler): Oh yeah, you're really gonna need that s***."

"If you don't believe in this, you don't believe in God, you don't believe in America!"

"You know what? I like it here in Ruston, my family likes it here and we're really starting to fall in love with Tech. I got a nice house and a driveway and I'm thinking about putting a goal up for my son to shoot on. And I think I'm gonna put just a rim up and put Anderson up there as the backboard! Catch the f***ing ball!"

"Quit standing up straight up and down before you get hit by Ameican Airlines!"

Sorry but those quotes make the guy sound like a tool. He might be a great DC, but, if he said all of that, he very well might be a tool as well.

methinks they want to make a run at an NFL guy still coaching tomorrow. if they don't get their man, they move to the prior recited names...

Possible that they really want thompson and have to be careful who they get... should they elevate a midmajor coach above a proven sec coach? They are probably trying all options before they have to resort to this.

I thought we were getting Garner for DC and Searles for Oline? Get great coaches and stick it to them damn bulldawgs?

Frazier is up for NFL HC jobs. The only way I see him going to the NCAA would be as a HC somewhere...and it'd have to be a big school. He's got a good thing going in Minny.

I've heard great things about the progress LATech has made under him, and that he runs an attacking scheme which is something I'd love for the next DC to run.

Sunseri sounds like he'd be a good get also with his track record as a DL Coach. As a DC, I dunno how he'd do but the experience he has in the NFL and spending time under Saban would be beneficial in that aspect.

Leslie Frazier for DC???? Might as well talk about hiring Bud Foster as defensive-backs coach.
And as for the guy who mentioned Rodney Garner as an option...he's not. He's a good position coach, but he's no DC.

Frazier has interviewed for six HC jobs in the last couple of years, and not been hired. Miami, Atlanta, St Louis, Denver, Detroit, and now Buffalo.

The Vikings D Line coach, Karl Dunbar was with Saban at LSU. Maybe DD still has a connection with him. I guess we will know when it happens. Kind of nice not to have everything playing out in the media before things are final though. Think DD laid the law down about leaks??

I'm not sure I want either of the Viking guys.

They seem to be in high demand in the NFL. That can't be good for continuity. If a job opens up in a couple years, the NFL season ends, as we know, before NSD.

Good point. But Monte seemed to really get into the college game after spending all those years in the NFL

Nope, I've already got some info on Dunbar. It's reported that he makes around $300,000-400,000. He would make a great hire for DC IMO.

Honestly I think we are lookin for a PROVEN DC and Garner has never been one before. The only reason he would be DC is just for the recruiting edge he could give us in Georgia. By the logic of makin him the DC then Lance Thompson has at least the same opportunity.

How far is he from pension?

How much would he make at the NFL DC positions he's likely to interview for along with us?

Grandkids had a little to do with that. I don't believe anything either one of em says anyway.

Plus he spent a lot more time in the league than Dunbar has. Dunbar is still climbing the ladder in the NFL.

I think Dunbar is 3rd or 4th choice for me, from this point. I think he'd probably be really good for us, I'm just not sure about retaining him for longer than the last clan.
