To me it looked like McDowell touched it short of the goal line and the SC guy kicked it in the endzone, should have been down at the 1.

So it can't be a UT TD since UT touched it first. I believe because McDowell was touching the ball as he slid into the endzone, they ruled it a touchback. The contact after was irrelevant. Someone correct me if I understood incorrectly.

I guess bottom line you have to question why McDowell thought he could make that play sliding when the ball was dead at the 1. It was an amazing punt.

Yes...instead of just running down to the football and just bending over and lightly touching it while it's just sitting there, we have poorly coached players that slide to the ball and give the officials and replay guys a reason to call it a touchback.

I don't think it matters where McDowell is as long as the ball doesn't cross.

Ref didn't blow it dead after our first guy touched it and before McDowell hit it. It was still a live ball because the whistle wasn't blown I believe.

I know it's how they rule it in the NFL, but I thought the college rule was simply applied to how the ball could be saved before it actually landed.
