From what I can find via internet search, he missed first two game but did get playing time in the last two and pulled when Grimsley got a big lead.
If you have a MaxPreps account (which I do not) you can see season to date stats and that should confirm.

He would have a great case considering he never played until 2021, Pavia basically got 2 juco yrs, 2new mexico yrs, and 2 vandy yrs. All of which he played in.

Joey currently has played 2 juco, 2 apst, and 1 ut. He could sue the ncaa into oblivion if he wanted to. I hope for him he gets an nfl shot next year

Do you take him another year possibly knowing Merklinger isn't the next QB to give GMac time to develop another year?
- Merk would definitely be gone to the portal under that scenario
- You would have, ideally, what you wanted if Hooker could have had a second year in this offense (and something you have never had here at UT)
- You have to think how this may affect the Faison Brandon situation, especially if Merk doesn't transfer out

OR do you pass even though he gets an additional year?
- You would be putting faith in Merk or GMac to step up and be QB...are they ready?
- For the 5th year in a row you go into the season with an unknown at QB (or at least a new starter at QB)
- Would you go look in the portal again this year for a QB?

Don't think this would be much of a question at all.

If you could get Aguilar another year, assuming he maintains this level of play, you take it and run with it. Merk probably doesn't have a future here regardless, so he's of no real concern to me. So Aguilar would start again next year, then the year after that it's a competition between Brandon and GMac. Or if GMac decides to transfer/leave because he doesn't want to wait out another Aguilar year to be able to compete for the job, it's Brandon's job.

You never pass on great QB play for unknown QB play, ever.

Gotta be honest. I don't see Merklinger being the answer. Not sure GMac will be ready and Faison is battling an injury. Getting another year for Aguilar would be great.

As long as the check is cashing Faizon and MacIntyre wonā€™t care whether theyā€™re playing or not as long as they know theyā€™ll at least have the opportunity to start for 3 years. These QBs with real NFL aspirations are going to find out soon that itā€™s more about how you look at the end of your college career than it is if you started as a true freshman or not

Not the same situation, because he chose to leave but imagine if Texas had convinced and paid Ewers a ton for another year. They most likely would have won in Columbus and they'd be sitting at #1 right now. Ewers could play, make all the throws, was very experienced and mature. I think Texas would be on their way to a title with Ewers another season. Again, this isn't the same situation because Ewers had eligibility left and Aguilar should have another year. It's crazy how Texas didn't stand by Ewers, they couldn't wait to get rid of him. Also think Ewers would have benefited greatly both financially and draft pick wise had he stayed another year.

Tennessee should stand behind Aguilar and exhaust all efforts to try to get his year of eligibility back. Up to the highest possible legal options. Just my thought. Especially since Aguilar chose to come to Tennessee after all he has been through. It would just be in good faith that Tennessee stand up for him.

Tennessee sued on behalf of another player we all know of and they should have. It was the right thing to do even though it didn't seem appreciated in the end. All things worked out though. MOST everyone else would view Tennessee as a place they'd want to be, especially if they knew that Tennessee would stand by and fight for them no matter what.

If Joey for whatever reason stayed, the entire QB developmental system goes out the window. I know everyone now believes Merk is a bust, but if one half with the 2nd and 3rd team offense is enough to bury him, then our faith in this coach is pretty questionable. He walks and G-Mac probably does as well with Faizon on his way in.

Heupel is still only in year 5, and has the program humming now - Nico was an unforced error, but we have top QB recruits wanting to come here now, and continuing to let them walk will only create a situation where their parents will avoid UT. I want to see us get back to developing QB's who stay and lead the program for two seasons before they move on and pass the baton.

Is that delusional in today's CFB? Maybe so. If it is, just make it the NFL farm league already and be done with it. I guess we can all turn into Kiffin or Cignetti like programs and just shuttle 23-25 year old transfers in every season. That should please those obsessed with making the playoff every season or bust instead of building a lasting program.

Joey has an option to consider with that ruling. that gives him a redshirt year plus a play year. If he wants it.. if UT wants it.. I've not read the entire opinion but it seems to eliminate any time spent at a JC as not eligibility years.

such a short sighted cynical take. I doubt anyone cares how it is built. People want results. The problem is the past greed of the NCAA created where we are now. They have no right to dictate where a player can play, the matter in which they play, and for how long they play. Without a privatized governing body they can literally do whatever they want, take it to court, and win. That goes for every player and program. Nobody has a right to play. If Fraz comes in next year and starts vs Merk that does the same thing. The best player needs to play. If Merk can't outplay Ag then that is on him. Results matter. Michigan showed that by cheating their way to a championship.
