Can Adrian Martinez Run?

This will be a huge question for any HC candidate.
UT will not win with flat-footed QBs.

Saban and Dabo have running QBs.
Harbaugh doesn't (won't) and is a bust.
Meyer won't run Barrett -- lost 3 blowouts in 10 months.
Kelly not going to UF cos they don't have any runners on the bench. Can't cut Franks loose.
Mayfield runs very well.

After watching Dobbs run, and the Ga Tech QB v us, and Hurts, there's no reason Tennessee should ever take the field without a fast QB.

If it means switching to an option formation (wish, flex, etc.), so be it.

Saban won his two most recent national titles with both AJ McCarron and Jay Coker, neither of which were “running qbs”.

Also, name the last team to win a national title running the option. There’s only what, 2-3 teams in the country who even run it? There’s a reason for that.

So hard to tell how good a runner a qb is based on his high school tape vs a majority of kids who’ll never play D1 football.

I remember my very first debate with D4H a couple years ago when he swore JG was a faster, even better runner than Dobbs based on his high school tape. I said that was preposterous, he said otherwise......guess who was right.

Wow D4H was wrong? That's new.

This all means nothing. The new coach coming in want to run a pro-style QB or a zone read? Nobody knows.

Total agreement with all three lines, and especially the middle one. I do not like an offense where the QB is asked to run a lot 1) it causes opposing D's to focus on him too much, and 2) that exposes the QB to greater likelihood of injury. However, he does need to be mobile enough to avoid pressure, escape sacks, and hopefully make positive yardage on busted plays... like you said. Also, having a QB who can "tuck-it-and-run" can worry even a good defense to distraction.

Tim Tebow never got hurt. Alabama knew Cardale Jones was going to run the ball -- couldn't stop him. Here are the Heisman winners siince 2007 who ran often:

Lamar Jackson
Marcus Mariota
Jameis Winston
Johnny Manziel
Robert Griffin
Cam Newton
Tim Tebow

I remain befuddled why folks disagree with me about having a running QB, as if they're hoping we always have a handicap.

To be fair, based on 40 Times, JG is faster than Dobbs, but nowhere near as agile, shifty, or quick on his feet.

Duh.

But please name an offense that requires the QB to be immobile/slow?

Duh

“Requires”? Probably none. Renders meaningless? Same ones that used/use Peyton Manning,Tom Brady, Kurt Warner and TREVOR LAWRENCE among countless other pretty dang effectively. Want tips on breathing, next? :)

Winston was/is a pocket passer with minimal running ability to say the least.

But we were talking about national title winners weren’t we? Less than half the guys you listed here did that.

To be fair, there’s no way whatsoever that JG is faster than Josh Dobbs. Just no way.

Out of 3,000,000 QBs over the last 20 years, you name only 3, all HOFs.

Trevor Lawrence unproven. I prefer Fields, who has the jets.

Still, you're looking for an excuse to lose. "Ah, our QB got sacked 8 times."

No, I'm not talking about winning titles. I'm talking about winning 9-10 games a year consistently. And never just 5. And not getting blown out half the time cos the other D shuts down a 2 dimenesional offense. A running QB gives you 3 dimensions.

If your OLine is bad or, as in our case all too often, injured, the QB is a sitting duck. Alabama has won with flat footed QBs because they have 10 NFL OLineman. We did for about 5 years under Fulmer (1998-2002). We're not there. It's pretty rare for any program.

The running QB takes pressure off the OLine.

Vick wasn’t a statue...quite the opposite. Sacked 316 times in 115 games. Cam Newton sacked 244 times in 103 games Donovan McNabb sacked 410 times in 161 games. Peyton Manning?

Sacked 303 times in 266 games.

That’s 3 for YOUR side. :)

We know what you “prefer”. ^ is why we discount it.

I'm befuddled at stupidity. (Yours?)

In college, running QBs win games. Not so much in NFL.

Vols play college ball.

:lolabove: Glass houses and all. You Mensa you! Deshaun Watson won last year...before that?

Jacob Coker-ran a 4.55 but moved like a statue
Cardale Jones-clocked a 4.8 at the combine
Jameis Winston-4.97
AJ McCarron-4.94...hot wife is faster
Cam Newton-Hey! Wise got one
Greg McElroy-fast as Cardale Jones

So, giving you Deshaun Watson, that’s 2 out of the last 8 titles won by true dual threat QB’s...but you do you!
