Can a UT fan be a real fan if they didn't attend UT?

There are always those that try to place a "degree of seperation" between themselves and others to mask their own inadequacies and promote self importance by exclusion.

If alums excluded UT fans based on UT alum status, they would be enjoying the game with roughly 30k in attendance.

My wife went to Ole Miss and is ALL VOL!

Very stupid comment!

Pretty sure Archie Manning didn't go to UT, and I think he's a big fan.

This is just silly. Of course you can be a fan without having a degree. The best fans we have never attended the university. Orange has run thick through my blood since conception and one can develop this gene throughout life.

This post should end the thread. :hi:

I like how you made it scientific and biological :)

I've been a fan since conception/birth. I never attended UT.

The only problem I've run into up here is the "hybrid fan."

The "hybrid fan" claims to be a UT football fan and a UK basketball fan. I never understood how you could cheer for UT in football against UK and cheer for UK against UT in basketball. Pick one or the other and get off the fence.

No.

You can not be a fan of ANY school, unless you attend there.

Man... I have to believe UT is going to go 13-0 every year AND go back to college?

I'm beginning to think it might not be worth it. Who came up with these rules, anyway?

EDIT: Do correspondance courses count?

Actually, intelligence and fandom are inversely proportional for Bama. The less intelligence you have, the more likely you are to be a Bama fan. Don't believe me? Read some of their posts on here.

Hell, one of UT's biggest boosters... Thorton didn't attend the school.

I graduated from Eastern Kentucky University.... I was known in the Fraternity/Sorority circle as "the guy in Orange". Doesn't matter where u went to school. When i was a kid i didn't get to watch cartoons on Saturday... i watched the Vols. Sometimes it just runs in the family! GO VOLS!

Somebody's gonna have to tell my 5-year old that his gameday excitement is premature..... :cray:

Maybe its okay since his momma and I have a combined 4 degrees from UTK?

60% of people in Ben Hill on gamedays are bandwagon UF fans who transferred loyalties after FSU and Miami began to suck. So their opinion means nothing. You're a fan if you bleed orange.

I am not from Tennessee, I have never lived in Tennessee, and I never attended UT; but I am a huge UT fan. My uncle lived outside of Johnson City when I was a kid and he would send me all kinds of UT stuff. Thats how I became a UT fan. I was born, raised, and have lived in south Ga all of my life. I will only pull for the Dawgs when it benefits my Vols. So if anyone wants to say that I am not a true fan can kiss my :moon2:

I grew up in East Tennessee but was kind of lukewarm towards the Vols until Fran Tarkenton's dad started explaining how Tennessee could never match UGA as a football school. I decided then and there that Orange was my color.

Being a Vol fan is an attitude, not a degree.

Grew up in VA went to Carson Newman (wasn't good enough to play at UT) but loved the vols since the early 80's and now live near Nashville. Better not tell me I'm not a fan!

Why do some folks keep perpetuating the myth that college football has ANYTHING to do with attending school?

My university just got the gigantic beatdown from Clemson, so I have a better success rate of winning ball games by cheering for UT.

That, and I spent my first 21 years of life in Knoxville, too.

Dumbest question/comment ever posted on this forum.

So, I will respond in kind.

I'm a die-hard UT fan, but I wanted a real education, so I went elsewhere.

To say someone isn't a fan because they didn't attend the school is idiotic. Heck, Thunder didn't even go to school at UT if I recall correctly, and he's one of the biggest boosters.

IMO..In a sense your more of a fan if you did'nt attend school there. Similarly the way an adoptive parent chooses to parent a child without obligation but does anyway. Aside from that I see the Tennessee Volunteers as representatives for every person from Tennessee, and the state itself. It's a pride thing with me.
