Best digital camera $200 or less?

Daughter (13) wants one. I figure I'll start with something in that price range, until I see if this is passing interest.

Pictures of friends and such as that. I want to get her a decent one, but nothing professional.

My kid is very artistic. Should it develop into more of a passion, we'll get better equipment.

Right now she just wants a digital camera. Kinda sprung this on me at the last minute.

Any in the Kodak Easy Share line would be fine. They are cheap, quality (for their price) cameras.

She'll probably want a thin camera so it will fit nicely in her purse. But other than that I can't imagine a 13 year old wanting much more in a camera besides click and shoot.

I have a Canon SD790IS that I'm awfully happy with as a point-and-shoot. It's $200 even right now at Amazon. 10 megapixels and an image stabilizer. The image stabilizer is key because, no matter how artsy she is, much of what she'll be doing is taking pictures of friends at social events. She'll get a lot more lifelike pictures of people indoors if she can turn the flash off, and an image stabilizer makes it feasible to take snapshots at night with the flash off and still get decent shots.

For a young teen who's need is a camera that sexy and has mobility, has few user issues because it's built in user friendly, and priced reasonable this is your choice, IMO.

OK, thanks guys, I will check out the Kodaks and Canons today.

Christmas was a lot easier when I could buy her the latest hot new toys, a bunch of Barbie stuff, and a new bicycle.

At least I don't have to put a bicycle together on Christmas eve. :good!:

I think Canon is the best. I have a Canon Rebel (in film) and am getting a Canon digital camera for Christmas. To me they seem to be the best quality.

I will just jump in to say that I have had a couple of different Canon models and have always been pleased. They are good cameras.

right now I have a Kodak easy share camera...it takes very clear pictures and easy to use. Not to mention i've dropped it many times and it still works =). And it was right at $100. It's a good deal.

^ When it's above 7.0, not really. Considering they'll just end up on MySpace or something.

There aren't really any "bad" camera companies, just those that are better. And those would be Canon and Nikon, in that order.
