The flip side of that is it doesn't guarantee a title, or even that you get to play for one.

Help me understand your point about the Gator staff being able to get 5 star players with looking at recruiting rankings.

I'd be willing to bet you these "top programs" you reference, could give 2 rips about what Rivals or Scout ranks a player.

I'm sure they care more about what they think as apposed to what a recruiting site has to say, as should any coaching staff with any sort of clue.

That being said, you cannot deny that there is merit to the rankings, also as a UT fan we have not had a whole helluva lot to cheer about as of late, so we will try and find victories anyway we can.

LIke I said, they are indicators.

Why does Rivals still only list us at 14 commits total in the Team Ranking system when we clearly have 16 commits? Would that not bump us up a little higher?

1. They haven't updated the rankings yet

2. The # of commits listed in the team rankings only includes players that have received a rating

Tommorow the rankings will be updated but it will say we have 15 instead of 16 because Jacobs still hasn't been rated

Good grief guys................who cares what a site run by people who have never coached football ranks the kids recruited and committed by guys who get paid alot of money to gauge talent?

Get over this whole class ranking
thing.
Edit: I'm not a star gazer.

The higher your school is ranked, the better the perception is. Whether it's justified or not.

Just realized that McNeil dropped out of the top 5 safeties...that means he goes from 18 bonus points to 8 bonus points (as it pertains to the formula)...

This means instead of 969 points we will have 953 when the rankings update...18th instead of 17th

why would 10 pt difference drop us 30 pts?

Still working the numbers...the number is 953...

Sorry...I've had a few tonight...

But the positional bonus points a player gets goes into a more complex formula to get the total team points...so a 10 point differnce in positional bonus points can make a 15-30 point difference when all variables are factored in

What I want to know is why did he drop?

He either didn't go to enough camps (i.e. didn't go to one that Rivals analysts were at), went to the wrong ones (i.e. Rivals analysts weren't there) or he committed to the wrong team (i.e. one that Rivals analysts trust enough to bump a player based on his commitment to said team)

Thunder as always you post are fun to read. I know stars is a lot hype but its still fun to me to see how far up we go.

I'm surprised all of our recruits don't drop 2 stars on average when they commit to us, rivals hates us too.

I'm sorry but the more I learn about how the rankings work (Thunder bringing some data) the more I start to think the difference between a number 2 class and a number 12 class is slim.

This is correct. As long as we stay in the top 15 in recruiting we will have a chance.

Just got home from work and updated my spreadsheet. I got 953.2 with McNeil at the #6 safety so i think your spot on.

Preciate it..:hi:

We'll jump back up after Jacobs gets a rating...anywhere from 1020 to 1090 based on how they rate him

Can you confirm we'll drop to 953 tommorow due to McNeil going from 5th to 6th in the safety rankings?

Yup, 953. Back down to 18th. All because Rivals dropped McNeil from the 5th best safety to 6th. That's funny. hahaha
