Trust me, you got nothing else better to do on Saturday afternoon/evening than to come out and support your Tennessee Volunteer football team. Now is the time to make some of the best memories of your life with 100,000 of your closest friends!

Coach Jones said it best today during his press conference. "We should sell out our student body tickets EVERY single home game. That is the expectation."

You'll only have this chance a handful of times for a handful of years. Take advantage of it and Go Vols!

this is just my opinion, but I feel most students who are on VN and read it constantly go to most games (we're hardcore VOLS). So your message might not really get out (unless you're looking for us hardcore student vols to get people to come, which is ok/understandable I guess).

Also, it's parents weekend, so that should help (with #'s at the game). Many students will sit with parents (not necessarily in student section) so the student section might not look as good as usual

Noon game with a lackluster opponent after two losses...it's setup pretty poorly to expect a large crowd.

It's gotta start somewhere. It might as well be you.

When I was at UT all games were free. That is the way it was for over 100 years. Then Hamilton changed it in the mid 2000's to charge for student tickets. Attendance has been down since.

I know "its not a lot of money" and "they should be able to pay it" and "if we won they would happily pay it" arguments. But why does the University charge the students when it clearly doesn't need to given it didn't do it for the first 100+ years of TN football. When the team is strugling as it is now is the perfect time for UT to reverse course and give students free tickets.

I was there from 1980-1984. Tickets were not free, the cost was buried in the tuition and broken out on the statement as "Activity Fees Cost"(quarterly fees) No semesters back then. We were given a "Activities Card" once tuition was paid. One student could go to the University Center with up to 3 other student's activity cards. (4 tickets total) Stood in line and got whatever tickets were given to you. Almost always packed out. My bet is it's easier today....no standing in line. Nothing was free!!

You expect them to pay for the slop we have been force fed lately.......you let them in for free and I bet the upper deck would be empty......

I'd say the majority of if not all of the students taking their time out of the day to read this thread will be attending the game. However, my out-of-state friend who is not really a UT fan but a big football fan said pretty much: "Why would I wake up early and hungover to watch a crappy team beat a crappier team for $10 when I could buy a 12 pack instead and get drunk all day?" I asked if he would go if it was free he said it'd be a lot more likely. I'm sure that is a lot of people's mentality about this game.

I was in Athens on Saturday and the same dynamic occurred at the UGA/North Texas game. I'll bet the student section wasn't 40% full . . . And UGA is a top 10 team.

Technically they weren't free. The cost was just built into the student activity fee. Why don't they just increase the SAF to cover the cost of home games and be done with it?

Current Student here:

Just so ya'll know, the student section sucks. A lot. It has sucked since I got here in 2010. I'd say maybe 1/4 of the people act like they give a $h**. It's seriously discouraging to stand next to people who don't shout or cheer or anything. No one knows what the Fist Up defense is.

That being said, I'll be there with my group as always, yelling GBO!

Neither does our team, so that's ok.

In before some student complains about the price of student tix.

I guess inflation, cause they were free ( actually already paid for in tuition), with Student ID and Activities cards, just had to be willing to stand in line for hours for some games. Never missed a game.
