Calling Josh Dobbs...

Dobbs is not a bust. He showed plenty of potential last year, and was hands down the best QB in the Spring game. Not even close.

Cannot count him among the staff busts, at this stage. He will do just fine.

Dobbs played against the 2nd team defense in the O/W game.

It ain't like our 1st team defense was full of upperclassmen, with lots of experience under their belts. Let's be realistic.

Plus, it's the coaching staff's fault for not giving him 1st team reps to see if this was indeed an aberration. He made the most of his opportunities.

It's time to step up young man. Use this time wisely! Get bigger, stronger, faster. Work on your reads, footwork, and delivery. This team is yours to lead next year!

I liked most of what I saw from the kid last year and I think this year of watching will pay dividends next year. Ready to see a QB scramble for a first on 3rd and 3!

UT is due for clutch QB

Oh, please. Worley is not even close to the worst problem we have. He's not going anywhere.

Nor would I.
Ain't gonna happen. You can already see how resolute CBJ is, in putting the team's fortunes in the hands of the most senior fellow. That is why Worley, who doesn't even fit this offensive system, is given the keys, and Peterman is the next in line in terms of seniority.

Too many haters, like yourself, want to read more into that than there is. Assuming CBJ's penchant for playing the QB with the most experience = Dobbs sucks. That's pure STOOPID talking.

Reading comprehension is a big problem on this board.

Are you saying Worley is playing NEXT YEAR?! Cause that's what the OP was referring to, Otis.

Don't fool yourself people. Dobbs lost #2 position due to erratic throwing during summer drills. Peterman was a far better passer - noticeably better than Worley. Worley hung on to the job due to his experience and game management skills.

Sure thing, but wouldnt we say thats Worleys career has been filled with bad throwing up until this year. If Im not mistaking there wasnt anyone standing up for Worley last year. So with that being said Im standing up for Dobbs, he more athletic than many of our quarterbacks wev had, faster, smart (football smart unknown, takes development), and showed he can get first downs last year. Did he show us that he was young and struggled to perform greatly as a freshman. Sure he did.

But I dont care anything about putting Nate back on the field after this year, if he cant do anything but completely lose it likes he never been on a football field. But I dont want them burning Dobbs RS. Nate doesnt just have throwing problems, he has complete mental and physical breakdown. I wouldnt be surprised if hes crapped his pants everytime hes played, because thats what he looked like.

Now if Dormandy comes in and beats Dobbs out for the job next year, then so be it. I still wouldnt play Dormandy the whole first game, Id work him into playing more and more, and let the deciding factor be the results on the actual playing field.

If Nate is better than Dobbs in practice, then practice doesnt always reflect EXACTLY how one performs in the games.

Exactly what did you see last year that was so encouraging?...What I saw was a kid who was not ready to play in the SEC...Period...The kid can't throw a lick...His first td pass was an interception that the WR took away from the defender...He tried throwing a hail mary at the end of the Vandy game and the ball didn't even travel 50 yards...His running ability is about on par with Worley...Remember this kid is a pro style QB and running is not his best quality...There is a reason he is 3rd string...Peterman or one of the incoming freshmen will be your starter next season IMO.

Yeah, he was a true freshman though. If Josh Dobbs is a bust, then so are all the freshman this year that haven't made an immediate impact.

Well we have played around 22 of them so I would say MOST of them are not busts and the few who haven't played might be red shirted for depth next year.

Dobbs is third string because it was this staffs intention to redshirt him all along. That's blatantly obvious.

Burn the redshirt. Put Dobbs in to run a read option on a few plays, maybe throw a bubble screen then take him out. I bet the opposing team doesn't even prepare for a UT running QB. FL had some success changing QB's and we even prepared for FL's backp QB.
Let's play for this season not next.

And the biggest irony here is Fergie Ferg pitched a fit over losing the job to Worley and left.

He would probably have the job now. I firmly believe he would have come in against UGA and done well enough to keep playing. No way he would have done worse against Florida and Ferg could actually run which would bring credence to our no-read option.
Please tell me when in the GA game Worley would have been pulled.
There's no freaking way.

I think Dobbs is the by far the best backup we have, period. And he is the best fit for this offense. But, with an OL getting beat on a regular basis, none of our QB's will have a chance to show what they can do. Where I do think Dobbs can help, though, is he can squirm out of a collapsing pocket and make a play with his feet...where Worley and Peterman just take a sack everytime.

When you have a dangerously mobile QB, defenses have to try to contain you, rather than rush to a single point. It's harder on defenses to do that. They have to be much more disciplined than when they face an immobile pocket passer.

I would only pull Worley when the offense stalls and needs do something different to keep the defense off guard.....similar to GA wildcat plays (ignore WC plays against Fl).

You're kidding, right?

Dobbs wasn't even given any 1st Team drives in the Spring. He's the only competing QB that didn't get a single one.

It was clear from then that the staff was going to RS him come hell or high water.

Dobbs, no matter what he does or did in 2013, will not see the field unless Worley and Peterman both get injured.

Staff is selling this year out to preserve next year. I really do think they'll RS Blair, Dobbs and Scott unless they absolutely need to play them.

Dobbs all day, every day, twice on Sunday before Nathan Peterman.

As well as Jones has recruited almost every other position, his two biggest busts to date have been Dobbs and Blair. Exactly the two positions at which we are most desperate for help.

That's my biggest concern. We are accepting commits from a ton of wide receivers and not enough on the offensive line. Fulmer said the same thing last year. If we're going to sign too many players at a given position it needs to be on the line. We have to account for busts.

There is little doubt in my mind that they will do everything possible (including playing Ashford if Worley and Peterman get hurt) that Dobbs will redshirt this year. And that he will be the starter next year.

So you're willing to say Dobbs sucks, and the remaining freshman who haven't played this year are being redshirted for depth in the coming years. Why isn't that the case for Dobbs?

I remember a time when we were fresh off a loss to UGA and people were talking about Worley's leadership and how important he is. One week later, here we are. Don't become a prisoner to the moment people, take it week by week.

I guess the title was a leading misleading to those that don't take the time to read posts, or who cannot decipher the written word.

Here I'll clear it up for you: Calling Josh Dobbs for NEXT YEAR. Work hard and improve. Earn the starting QB job for 2015.

I'm ridiculous for thinking Dobbs could be a good QB next year says the ones who hype HS Seniors! lol

As much as I feel Worley isn't the best QB for our offense, he has earned the right to finish his career as the starting QB for UT. Hopefully, there will be opportunities (like this week) to get some others some playing time.
